PIV average temp

Mine is at 40 degress at all times......is that normal? I have a ThermalTake P4 Dragon CPU HSF on. I thought it should be lower.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

My idle temp is around 42 degrees C.
My 100% temp is 52-55 depending on room temperature.

57c is when the throttling starts to kick in, any lower than that and your fine

My 3.06 which is the hottest running P4 runs @ 34 idle and 50 full load now that the AS II has cured and settled in. When I first put it in I was getting ~ 37 idle and ~53 full load. I use a Thermalright SLK900 hsf. 40 degrees is not bad though and is in spec.

If I put too much heatsink compound on my CPU...would that cause it to run a little hot? I remember when I had the stock P4 HSF on...I idled around 34 degrees. I may have put just a little too much compound on with my ThermalTake.

It definitely has to be well above 57c to start throttling. In the dead of summer if the air conditioner isn't on very high i've seen my temps hit 59c under heavy load with no ill effects whatsoever. i think the throttle point is closer to 70c

This is all dependent on individual mobos and the handful of varying temperature reports by same mobos....I have personally ran as high as 66c and saw throttling at that point on my epox and MSI p4 mobos...

Temperatures can vary wildly from motherboard to motherboard and manufacturer to manufacturer....

I get 35c on my 2.4b@3.24ghz at idle and load at 44c max....This is on Albatron...same speed but with with .08v of more vcore on the epox and I got 40c idle and 52c load....

Thermatake dragons IMO are crap!!! I hav owned them and can tell from experience the retail HSF does as good as a job...that 66c I had came with use of their crappy product...and it was a copper embeddeed heatsink with high speed 70mm fan...too loud and crappy performer so I got an alpha 8942 and 80mm ystech fan (half the noise easy) temps went down to 52c load with another 80mhz and .05v of vcore added...

You shouldn't worry about those temps, they are within spec.. BTW, is that stock CPU speed or OC'ed? If OC'ed, then no wonder they are slightly higher.

stock CPU, not OC'ed....I think it may be bacause I put a little too much thermal grease on.

I dont notice any throttling when i hit 57, when i o/c my cpu to the max and then have it running at 100% load for a while it will climb up to the mid fifties, occasionally hitting 57/58.
