We're talking Pixel 2 as per the topic title. Minimum 64gb storage. But hey, carry on with your tirade.

It must suck to own a device that actively compels you to switch to a newer one all the time though. It's strange because most people I know who own Galaxies don't have that compulsion either so they don't go on strange rants to feel better about their device of choice.

True we're talking 64/128GB of storage, not 32.

But his point is still made. People who care about things like taking/having a lot of media on their phones are going to balk at the 64GB model. Which means playing $100 for just 64GB more of storage.

Sorry but there's plenty of us who've called this removing storage options for what it is: a blatant money gouge for the phone maker.

For $100 (less even) I expect 256GB of storage. Since that's practically all its really used for.. just storage.. the speed argument is moot. Google pushes removed sd for minor convience to their designs, no consumer benefit and all profit for Google.

I personally think it's absurd to shoot 4k video in the same space as apps and everything else needs. Photos and especially video should save to removable SD storage not internal device storage IMO. Same as if this device was a standalone point and shoot .

Anyway, just another thing the OP should consider if they care about such things. On my Note 8 just the sd storage is TWICE the max storage of the maximum pixel2, cost less, is swappable, and doesn't touch the device's 64GB internal.

If a person likes a lot of movies, music and peace of mind shooting a lot of media without worry of running out then the Note kills on that. Not important to everyone I know, but to some of us it is.

Sounds like you had a defective device and you should've had it exchanged. I've got a (broken screen) S7 Edge that is running the 8.0 update and it runs exactly like it did on day one. In fact, it's now my full-time GearVR device and I have no performance problems even if I run it down to 10% battery.

What? Yes you do. I have more pictures and videos taken with my phones on my uSD card than most Pixels (32gb) can hold, even if you had full access to their storage. Not only that, but if/when I switch to a new phone that has a uSD card slot, my pictures and videos are there, immediately, upon first boot, even before I sign into my Google account, with no cellular data allocation wasted. Why would I want to give that up for Google's cloud and be at the mercy of network conditions or Google's TOS? What benefits do you gain?

That works fine if you only take enough pictures to stay under the limits of the Pixel's low amount of storage.

I think his point was you don't have to use Google's specific cloud stuff, you can use others. But that also misses the crux of your argument which is that you have to use cloud storage because the phones held a minimal amount.

Sorry, but even with 128gb the Pixel 2 doesn't have enough storage. I have twice that in my micro SD card alone, and when I feel cramped, I can yank that card and put in one double the size.

It must suck to own a device that actively compels you to switch to a newer one all the time though. It's strange because most people I know who own Galaxies don't have that compulsion either so they don't go on strange rants to feel better about their device of choice.
It's not the device that compels me to switch, it's the "gotta have the newest!" addiction. That being said, I've had my Note 8 since October and I see no reasons for me to switch to any other device, especially not a Pixel.

Your friend is a moron. Here's what the Pixel 2 offers over the Note 8:
  1. Google's HDR algorithm (but you can get a Google Camera app for the Note 8)
  2. Immediate updates - that often break things
  3. Having to use Google's cloud for pictures, videos and music, constantly wasting your data
  4. I'm trying to think of a positive here...
  5. Getting to play with betas and janky community roms? I dunno...
What you get with the Note 8
  1. Monthly updates after Samsung fixes Google's bugs
  2. More usable features over Google's build of Android
  3. IP 68 water resistance
  4. Wireless Charging
  5. Micro SD card support
  6. Native theme engine that actually exists and has support
  7. Superior versions of Google's apps (Seriously, Samsung Email is a thousand times better than the Gmail app)
  8. The S-Pen.
  9. Secure Folder
  10. Better camera app (RAW support and Pro mode)
  11. Turning your phone into a Linux-based desktop machine (DeX dock and pad)
  12. Support for wireless casting to Mira AND Chromecast
  13. If you don't like or use Bixby, you can disable it using a package manager and us bxactions to map out the button to things.
Need I go on?

Why?

because i feel like sh*t posting this morning. the 13 points you listed under Samsung are meaningless to me and as someone who has used samsung devices in the past NONE of their versions of apps are worth using. they are surpassed by the default ones or a 3rd party app 100% of the time. i test devices for a living and Samsung phones have horrid BQ, they are some of the if not the absolute worst phones we test year over year in terms of durability. even the bendable iphone wasn't as bad as the 8/9 series samsungs. its actually pretty pathetic how bad they are,

also
you don't HAVE to use google cloud on the pixel, but i don't know why you wouldn't, it doesn't waste any data as its set to backup over WiFi by default.... and you can turn it off and it functions as a local gallery

been on the pixels forever, never had an update break anything
the camera is better v Note 8, the S9+ may beat it but samsungs camera app still over-saturates the fuck out of things

the rest of the crap you listed is pretty pointless and im curious if you are a paid samsung shrill

No I don't, YOU do. I don't know a single person who takes that many photos.

I mean, if you take a lot of 4K video, sure. But even then, I just don't see it. I personally do not think many people do that. And among those who do, I am confident that vast majority of those video will NEVER be watched. I see this happening all the time when family or friends bring me their phones "can you look at it."
When the problem is storage, and I tell them that there are some big videos, I am yet to hear anyone tell me "ok, I will save it" or something else, they always say "just delete it".

Circumstantial, sure, but you are exaggerating as well.

Weird argument about Google Pictures/Samsung gallery going on there guys! G Pictures is way better if you are using the cloud storage bit but S Gallery is much, much better if you are just using it for local pictures. It's much more fluid if you are zooming in or out on the gallery view, its themable sp you can have a nice dark background and it generally looks a lot nicer.
That's pretty much my impression of most Google vs Samsung software. Google stuff works beautifully with cloud storage but never looks that great, Samsungs software looks a lot nicer (particularly if you dont like loads of white space).
I've also never suffered from that Samsung slowdown you all go on about, hell my wife is still using my old S5+ and refuses to give it up!

I have 60gb of family photos and videos on my phone.

Even in your example you are talking about people running out of space. Surely it's better to have more storage than have to delete memories?

more storage is better but you dont have to delete anything as you can back things up to the cloud or a computer like a normal person

I am actually mild "frugalist".
As mentioned, everything is backed up either automatically, or manually.

That said, when looking at peoples galleries, I am of the opinion that we all tend to take photos and videos that we honestly will never ever ever going to see again.

I see no value in that.

Take for example a childs birthday. Blowing out the candles and a song, maybe. A group photo with all the friends, sure. Everything else, delete.

You can, and I do, but it's still nice to have everything locally as well as backed up. Phones are becoming the primary computing device for a lot of people and a lot of them have limited data or spotty connections, it just makes for a smoother experience if everything is on device.

I suppose you could cal it a defective device but then it would seems many of the S7s sold could be considered defective devices.

I can understand the value in some cases. But still.. I think it's a more enjoyable experience to find memories when you don't have to go through thousands and thousands of photos, 90% of which are duplicates or just utter crap, which is the case with most people.

Theres plenty of tools to organize your photos for easy browsing/searching now, deleting them seems a bit extreme!

Pixel 2 XL (64gb) has been the smoothest android experience I've had. But I wish I had gotten the 128gb so i can load more media (movies and such.

Only reason I'd want a samsung now would be the microsd expansion and samsung pay.

Maybe you are such a user, but I am 100% sure you are overestimatting other people, including enthusiasts. People are messy. Regular deletion is the only way, or AI that would organize automatically.

And digital hoarding isn't? There is literally no point in keeping trashy photos. Keep the good ones, nix the rest.

If you say so but I'll give you an example. My FIL died suddenly a couple of years ago and it was nice to have plenty of candid shots of him playing with his grandkids. If I'd have collated them at the time I'd probably have deleted most of them.

All you're saying is that you suck at taking pictures. They can be candid, and still of good quality, and therefore kept.

A blurry picture does no one any good. I delete pictures of my family all the time, but I also keep a lot (most of them candid shots). You seem to be conflating "delete bad pictures" with "do a full purge."

EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not saying you delete anything that isn't studio quality. Literally just trash pictures (blurry, people cut out, etc.). I am by no means a "photographer."
