I was finally able to get pictures of my burn in to prove to Google that my second pixel 2 has it. They are sending me a new one this week. Honestly unless they change the screen I think they all will burn in quickly. Some people are going to wait until the spring to order a phone just to see if they changed anything in the screen hardware.
If they're going to wait until Spring, they might as well wait for Pixel 3. Google and LG f**ked up. Again.

FWIW, my screen is fine. No burn in.

That's good to hear, I hope my next one that comes in is the same. I had no other issues with the phone honestly. It's ashame that the screen is the the way it is. They should have used better panels.

I agree. In the long run helping LG should benefit everyone because they are the only company that can compete with Samsung on OLED displays. Apple and Google investing in LG's display business is a good move, but considering Google probably won't sell a lot of Pixels compared to other flagships, I think they should have bitten the bullet and just paid for Samsung panels.

No burn in to report yet, although I opted into 8.1. After looking a bit more I think my wife's screen is a little grainy, but not as bad as what most people reported--closer to our S6s.

That's what I plan on doing.

FYI - the November Update is available

Except if they were to go with a different model screen they would publicly have to say that would they? I dont see them doing a recall really. But there is 2 years of warranty so if I see it again later when it burns in I'll just RMA again.

Just checked a few minutes ago and no update found for me.

Update took a long time to install.

Update includes Display Colors - Natural, Boosted(Vibrant) and Saturated. Not sure I like Saturated. Too saturated though reviews say it's less saturated than Samsungs. Wish there was an option between Boosted and Saturated.

for what its worth my pixel 1 XL has burn in if I load a grey screen and look where the on screen buttons are at.

I'd love some of the Pixel 2's "fixes" to be pushed to the 1's as well. Ever OLED phone I've owned has had burn in to some degree or other, though some far less than others.

I've heard that but burned in after 2-3 weeks of use at 20% brightness is pretty bad.

AMOLED burn in really freaks me out. I have it on my Note 4 if I look really hard on a white background. It will only get worse in time.

Curiously, my old Galaxy S5 has 0 burn in to this day. Why is that? I abused the crap out the display far more.

My Verizon Pixel 1 XL developed screen burn in around 11 to 12 months of use. I called Google 1 day before my 1 year warranty expired. First guy I spoke to ended up being a dead it, but I called back and the next person cheerfully helped me get a replacement. Only downside is I had to ship them my phone first. But got a refurbished replacement in a week. Very happy with the experience.

My new pixel 2 should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it has no extra blue tint and no burn in.

I dislike that they are going with those amorphous descriptions instead of something more concrete and definitive. (e.g. sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI-P3) Particularly, I do not like that Google helps perpetuating the notion of "sRGB = Natural" when there is nothing "natural" about sRGB. (or smartphone display in general except maybe for camera viewfinder)

It is just a nature of the technology. You know, kind of like every CPU has different overclock potential. I have a Note 3 with a faint burn-in at the top of the screen (status/notification bar). I can only make that out with solid color wallpaper.

Do you have to manually install the update? I haven't received any prompt for it yet, even when manually checking.

My friends that have Verizon or ATT got it. I have metro pcs which is basically TMobile. No one from TMobile has gotten it yet. Tmobile has to approve it first then it's sent out.

I thought the check for update button would override any other action and push the update regardless. At least that's what I read in an article at one point.

It could just take some more time for it to roll out to everyone. You could side load it since that's available although the images are not yet.

Interesting. I'm fine waiting, was just curious about how it worked.

Actually don't side load anything because I'm not sure if those side load packages are for TMobile. One guy flashed an ota package and lost VOLTE, ended up with poor call quality. Probably because it wasn't specific to TMobile.

If you have an AT&T sim card you can pop that in, check for update, download it, then switch back to your TMobile sim.

Got my new pixel 2 XL RMA today. Screen is whiter, or brighter I think. At 20% brightness it's really bright. No visible burn in yet, I see more of a uniform grey when I look at a grey full screen background compared to my old phone.

Also, the screen seems to have very minimal blue shift compared to my old pixel 2 XL. It's barely visible and only at odd angles but I say it's better than the last one too by a lot.

Coincidentally my roommate also RMA'd his XL too and the one he got back, the screen is definitely not as white or bright as mine. He said his blue shift is still somewhat visible but I found it to be not a concern. It's not noticeable just like his first phone. He's still setting his up so I'll see if the screen changes once the setup is done but mine is definitely more brighter and sharper it seems.

If I have to RMA his phone again we will do it and hope he gets a better one. But I don't think there will be any need.

Got my free Google Home Mini email yesterday. Ordered it, expected to deliver by next week. I am excited to finally start smartifying the house (though my wallet is scared for the future).

Edit: Anyone seen the Voice Experiments from Google?

https://experiments.withgoogle.com/voice

Meme Buddy looks like a genius idea and will be especially useful during text conversations between my brother and I. Also can't wait to try Story Speaker with my Home Mini.

My home mini should be here Friday. I wonder how it will work with two of them. My roommate will have one in his room too. I'm planning on getting some lightbulbs to control in my room and possibly the living room area. I think they said it will have different profiles for who's talking.

I just read a story about Pixel 2 XL screen flashing then you turn them off...
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/11/08/pixel-2-xl-screens-flashing-locking-unlocking/

And guess what started happening to mine this morning... Turned off my display and it flashed at me. As the video shows in the story above, it flashes right after the screen goes off and right before the active display comes on. Very annoying.

I love the phone, but amazing how many different problems seem to be coming up from this display.
