Yea the camera seems to be very nice. The one on the pixel was really good too from what I saw when I played with it in a store. This camera on the 6p still takes a bit to process hdr and it can take good photos but not like the pixel camera.

That's one of the things I'm.excitrd for. I never cared much for cameras until I realized that I started taking more and more pictures and noticed they weren't as great as they can be, detail was low, the 6p doesn't do too well in darker areas.

I'm going to get a non rubber but slim case. Just nothing that came up on Amazon yet is appealing. There is one but it's just a rubber case with leather on the back, looks nice but I don't think it's worth $29.

I'll wait a few more weeks and there should be more styles available.

Yea that's not a bad one. I'm looking at getting one of these two.

Wonder why they didn't explain why they took away the headphone jack. This here states this is where the future is headed.

http://bgr.com/2017/10/06/pixel-2-headphone-jack-iphone-x-design/

Still that doesn't explain why they couldn't take away a little more of the bezels but I found it interesting.

So they are doing it to make the bezels smaller and they cant d that with a headphone jack?

*looks at pixel 2* *looks at S8* *looks at pixel 2 again*

OoooooKayyy then.

Yea same exact expression I had. I think they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar and had to come up with something. Not a good excuse. My guess is they were pressed for time like last year/lazy in the design department or they simply don't have the resources to do the same yet.

For me it will be a great upgrade from my 6p which is getting old fast now.

Have you guys seen this? https://support.google.com/pixelphone/forum/AAAAb4-OgUsbwahQtEZAUk/?hl=by ? From a Google engineer, they created an album of unedited photos from Pixel 2. Just as I expected, the camera is excellent.

Direct link to Google Photos album
Makes you wonder why OEMs are so eager to push dual cameras.

Edit: On a second look, unrelated to single(dual) camera(s), the shots look a bit too "processed" for my liking. Scenes/objects appear "dehydrated," or "dry," if that makes any sense.

no headphone jack = problemo. No bluetooth IEM's out there are better than my Dunu DK-3001's, let alone even close to being as good as them, and a dongle will just put wear and tear on the USBC port that I don't want.

There also isn't adaptation for a ubiquitous solution for adoption of peripheral devices using usb c connections such as headphones and other accessories so removing the headphone jack of course is an easy way to streamline that and make money at the same time.

I'm not saying it's right but this is where it's headed for the future models.

It's bullshit because before when we had changes in format, like say VHS to DVD there was an actual measurable increase in performance. There is none here. BT audio is still compressed a second time. There just aren't the variety of BT headphones to choose from like from wired ones. There are a myriad of reasons why this 100 year old technology of the headphone jack is SUPERIOR still to BT audio transmission.

the fact that i ordered one does not make this any less true

"bulkier more expensive worse sounding (at equiv price) headphones that need to be charged and adapter dongles is not progress that's regression"

i ended up picking up this case. https://www.incipio.com/cases/smart...-xl-cases/dualpro-google-pixel-2-xl-case.html

its a little bulkier.... but i have the same one on my moto z play , and it has kept it in mint condition. originally i was going to go for a thinner slim case, but then realized the reason i got the dual pro for the moto z (which is a similar sized phone to the 2xl) is that i like to go to bars and drinking and have dropped this huge heavy phone tons of times and it shows on the plastic shell of the dual pro.

i once dropped a moto x 2015 a month after i bought it onto concrete and destroyed it with a normal tpu case... so yeah, dual pro works if you are willing to pay a few extra $ (they almost always have a 15% -30% off if you google so its not otterbox expensive)

Google charged my credit card today and it's supposed to ship tomorrow.

I wanted to order Spigen cases but they're not going to be available til Nov. So, I found SlickDeals deal for Caseology and picked up two cased with braided usb-c cables for $7.99 each.

Reviews are coming in. Apparently the Pixel 2 has a custom chip called the "Pixel Visual Core" that - when it is turned on with 8.1 - will greatly speed up image processing with less power use as well. And the plan is to allow 3rd party camera apps to take advantage of the chip in the future, and expand its usage beyond just photography. Cool stuff.

Looks like the XL has display issues with a dirty or grainy display in low brightness. They say it's due to the displays made from LG. The regular pixel 2 has a Samsung display and doesn't exhibit this. Well that's really dissapointing for a phone of this price.

I hope I don't notice it on mine. I had a one plus one phone that had a yellow display for half of the screen at one point. Had to send it back.

Good thing google does let you return it if you open it.

Why would they put the inferior screen on the larger flagship phone and the better made screen on the smaller one? This is bizarre. This phone doesnt appeal to me in the least. The only thing going for it, IMO, is clean android. No compelling reason to get this.

Supply chain. The XL is made by LG, who has their own OLEDs and wouldn't buy Samsung anyway.

Yeah hopefully in a few years we'll see some LG panels getting close to Samsung quality (didn't Apple and Google both invest money into LG's display business?), but for now I'll settle for the inferior display as long as it's not crap, which I don't think it will be.

Google at least ships a dongle in the box, which will allow you to plug in your headphones. But you still can't charge and listen at the same time. Google has a compatible adapter in the Google Store that can do charging and listening, but it costs $45. If (or when) you lose the packed-in dongle, a replacement is $9, which was recently lowered from the MSRP of $20. If you're looking for an alternative USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, it needs to support "digital audio" as opposed to analog. The USB-IF has specs for both modes, but the digital audio adapters actually need to have "multi-processing units" and amplifiers in the adapter, hence the outrageous costs of these dongles.
Well shit. This is completely the wrong way to handle these dongles imo.

Edit: Older confirmation article-- https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/10/06/pixel-2-xl-dac-missing/

This really makes no sense. You still have a DAC for the internal speakers. I really think not using USB-C analog audio is a huge mistake.
