Looked at one in a VZW store yesterday. Surprisingly the only thing that bothered me was the blue tint, which I thought was a grossly overblown problem. On the unit I was looking at unless you held the phone completely perfectly then you would either see blue shift at the top or bottom when reading a white web page. No grain, didn't notice any burn/IR, colors were good enough. But the blue was pretty distracting. What's odd is I read more about it online and some people are seeing it with as little as 5-10 degrees (what I experienced) and others don't see it until angle is over 30-45 degrees (what I expected). Seems like a weird problem to have that much variation on viewing angle.
Mine is fine with that angle. It has to be very extreme for the blue to show up. Although I'm worried about my ghosting image and retention on the screen. Google wants a pic of the burn in but there is no way to capture it on camera. It's barely visible if looked at in person.

I would rma mine but it's very hard to get on camera and take a picture of it. It's barely noticeable.

What? You seriously have burn in already! An S3 in my house been through 3 owners and is a bit battered but that doesn't have burn in!

I don't know what it has. Sometimes I feel like I see the nav bar and icons. Other times I don't. I can't really prove it to google so I can't do anything about it. My roommate's phone it's clearly visible though.

Interesting - that's the Note 8 in basic mode? If so then I kind of get the criticism since recent Samsung phones in basic are supposed to be very accurate but the colors do look richer compared to the 2XL. Normally wouldn't be an issue but at the price point of the 2XL, I think some nitpicking is OK.

Yes, Note 8 is in Basic Mode

Interesting. The XL looks cool and grey, the S8 looks too warm. However the reds are lacking intensity on the S8, which I've read is the biggest problem with color accuracy on the Pixel.

Thats the Note 8 (not s8) and Pixel 2 XL.

Some more pictures taken with iPhone 6s. Note 8 has the skinomi screen protector on it. Blue Light Filter is OFF on note 8.

For Some reason, the Pixel 2 XL feels faster and smoother. I have seen occasional lag while fast scrolling on the Note 8 (running pixel launcher). The Pixel 2 XL is smaller and feels more comfortable in hand.

Send me questions and I will try to answer. Both of these phones will be probably going back (Note 8 is just too big for me - not able to reach top corners comfortably, Pixel 2 XL possible screen issues and blue tint)

"max brightness" - this isn't 100% its about 90% or wherever that warning comes up when you try to make it max
Pixel XL2 - S8+ - S8 - S7

Thanks. I can't tell the difference between any of them...

I can't tell the difference either. Colors seem fine to me but to be safe about the screen burn i will try to rma mine along with my roommates since his is more visible.

Honestly from the pictures you guys are putting up I don't think the XL 2 looks any worse, I'm more worried about the burn in issue than the colors.

Thankfully burn in is covered by warranty.

I have a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL waiting at home for me. If I find the XL to be unreasonably bad, it will be returned and I'll just go with the regular 2.

I could never go back to a smaller screen. Tried to use my 6p after my xl 2 arrived and I just couldn't. Thing is google wants proof of burn in but unless you have it really badly it's going to be hard to prove it on camera.

Yeah, that. Colours look a little different bit I wouldn't say any of them were dealbreakingly worse than others.

Oh I definitely prefer larger screens, but if I end up not going with the XL then at this point I don't care, I want a smooth software experience with a leading camera, big screen or no. At least both have front facing speakers, which is something I've missed.

Are they doing an extended warranty period to cover the screen? I think that you'd get that in the UK if it's shipped with a known issue.
No idea. They do offer the advanced protection, but I didn't get it as anything I buy with my credit card has its warranty period doubled with the same level of protection as the original warranty.

yea difference is small. all those were in basic mode for the shot i did. i can do more tomorrow, Canon battery died. if you put the S8/7 in AMOLED modes of the adaptive one it looks a lot different, maybe ill do that in the morning.

some prefer the super saturated look, i like mine looking "correct". years and years of photo editing on calibrated displays made me hate the super saturation

Super saturation is what you see the most when you also go look at the TV section for samsungs. I had to choose between the Sony and Samsung and I kept going back to the Samsung just because it had that saturated look that made everything bright. I went with the Sony and when I got home I realized I enjoy the natural unsaturated display more. It's also easier on my eyes.

Phone was supposed to ship today, but nuffin. Hopefully that means they're picking one out for me with a perfect screen.

Good luck! I need to contact them now and rma my roommates phone because his is pretty badly burned in. Mine shows signs of it but I can't get a good picture of it. I'd like to rma mine too at the same time since I bought them both on the same day but they are too separate orders. This way if I decide to stick with mine they may deny me an rma later thinking I already got one seeing as there are two phones on my account.

Got to play with my XL tonight. So far I'm really liking it. This is the smoothest performing phone I've ever used. I do see the blue tinting on non straight angles of view, but it doesn't bug me. I expect better from Google, so it's disappointing, but not a deal killer.

You know what is bugging me though? The top bezel is slightly bigger than the bottom one. I don't know why Google keeps doing this. Maybe it's an optical illusion, but it really looks like the top bezel is slightly larger. As a fan of symmetric design, this is mildly infuriating lol.

Otherwise, really liking what I'm seeing so far. Can't wait to use the camera.

Could it be the onscreen keys that's making an illusion? I'm curious as to if it really is asymmetrical.

Were there older phones that have the same shift in color at different viewing angles? Because I've never heard of any mobile phone having a shift in color prior to this. The only shift in color I've heard of is on TN panels on monitors. Also, how can there be burn-ins on a phone that is barely a week old? That is just horrible quality control.
It really shouldn't have problems like this being a flagship and the manufacturers being google. I hope they actually address hardware issues like these in the next Pixel and not only concentrate on software, which, don't get me wrong is amazing right now, but hardware issues like these shouldn't crop up on phones costing that much.
