So because you're friend is a douchebag, you lump all delivery guys into the same group?

So I guess I should assume since you're from Kentucky, you not only fvcked your sister and your mother, but had your way with the dog too.

See what I'm getting at with this?

So you're best buds with scum? Sounds great.

Maybe you should just write a check or pay with a credit card when ordering a pizza-- this should solve any of the problems that you've encountered with pizza delivery people.

The store won't cover personal cash If I'm robbed - so I don't give a fvck if I have 200 dollars in one dollar bills as my personal cash - you don't have anything smaller than a 50, sucks for you.
No, actually it sucks for the delivery guy.

Wouldn't suck for me - I wouldn't give him the pizza, and I'd have the personal satisfaction of knowing that he's an idiot.

Why the hell would you think that he is an idiot? Is part of your autoattendant (IVR system, or whatever you want to call it) when people call to place orders an information bit, reminding customers that they cannot pay with anything larger than a $20?

I personally had *no* idea whatsoever that a delivery guy would not usually be able to break a $50. I personally try not to pay for anything with denominations larger than $20, but that's just because I know that it's inconvenient for some places to break bills larger than $20. A delivery guy... I would not have imagined that would be the case. I can think of multiple times that I've been places, and the delivery guy was given a $50 or $100, and was able to break it. I know of two instances in which the delivery man was from Papa John's, and there were occasions from other pizza places, too.

I've been working concessions at high school events for many years now - yes, I know that it's not remotely the same as delivery, but nonetheless, there is still a high risk of robbery. We used to open each night with around $500, mainly in 1's, and quarters. In the last year, we've had to increase that a LOT, because more and more people are paying with 50s and 100s. It's to the point that I spend nearly half of my time pulling large bills from the drawers, and locking them up, and a couple of years ago, that only took a few minutes per night - because we rarely encountered large bills. <shrug> We have to accomodate the customers... I guess that delivery guys get enough business that they don't have to do that.

Even in the good areas. Trust me. Every pizza place has a robbery story. You just don't hear about it because probably nobody was killed, but it does happen.
It makes the news one night and that's all.

Robbery of drivers, or of stores? I know of many pizza shops around here that have been robbed, but I can't think of a single driver that has been robbed (and my sister's long-time boyfriend is the general manager of a local pizza chain, and is friends with other managers.... so I get to hear a lot of stories).

I know of quite a few drivers in the Columbus area that *do* carry credit card machines with them. I wouldn't expect that of every place, but I know of some places that I am sure I could expect that.

If its after 6pm its ok to give your delivery guy $50, but before that go screw your self. And for christ sakes tip your delivery guy $5

And not all delivery guys are scum suckers, I was honest and i tried to make the people happy. There was this one driver though im going to quote one of my former coworkers "He gave you a ****** tip because your an asshole, people can sense these things." It was funny as hell

That's prolly Donato's; they'd make their drivers blow customers for a buck if it went to the bottom line. :Q

As a 14+ year delivery loser... I don't accept fitty's. I'll offer you 'the speech':

"I'm sorry, I don't carry enough change to accept your ($50 / $100 / bridge card). If you have a credit or debit card, I can call that in or a personal would work also."

I have a small 'section 8' neighborHOOD where it's necessary for teh locals to 'understand'. I also carry a small screwdriver so I can 'fix' things if they go bad on a delivery.

And Spidey, it appears you can't pick up girls, but you can always pick up a pizza.

Nice

Nah, it isn't Donato's. It's a local chain. There are only a few people (including said general manager) that will deliver to some areas. That select group of people also happens to be the group of people that are usually armed at all times....

That said, I don't think they've really had any problems in those areas either. Perhaps the 'bad' areas around here aren't as bad as in your area? That would surprise me terribly much... east Columbus is fairly safe/clean.

At least the pizza is good.

EDIT - Update, the guy finally came back. I appologized again for not having anything smaller, and he appologized for not having the change, and said it was no big deal. Btw, this time he was carrying well over 100 in his "wad. I gave him a 3.50 tip, and found out where he worked on base. (Hes at the same Army base as mine). I told him I wont pull him over

I've never had a Papa John's pizza. Hope it isn't one of those cheap-ass Dominoes copycats. Isn't it great when a story has a happy ending? Always trust the pizza dude.

Then your buddy is a scumbag. I deliver pizza part time and never pull this. Although most times I won't have change for a 50 either as we are expected to make drops after every run. If I get a 50 and I don't have change I will offer to leave the pizza with the customer and take the 50 back to the store to get change. Letting the order taker know that you are paying with a 50 or 100 dollar bill helps because I can take the cash needed to complete the sale.

I can't believe how heated this thread became. I really don't see it as a big deal although it does suck to go clear across town to get change when it could have been avoided. But the op says he gave the guy a 3.50 tip which would have satisfied me.

This just really doesn't bother me that much as tonight I took 10 deliviries got stiffed twice and got $1 twice. Now that sucks...

BTW-The people that REALLY piss me off are those that have orders that say total $21.40 and give me $22 I will give them the .60 cents back everytime. That is an insult.

But, you really need to drop calling delivery drivers scumbags, the scumbags are the people out there that won't work for a living.

How is it his fault for following his company's procedure? You got your pizza - now the guy is going to have to waste more time going back to your house to get payment - causing him to miss more deliveries, which = less tips.

Worst customer evAr!

phear teh wrath of teh pizza man...

So when he comes back, will you tip him?

Of course I will. I dont buy the 15 dollar change thing. As soon as he gets to the first house that pays cash he'll have however much cash anyways. So why not start with a decent amount.

Whenever I was a waiter, I carried 100-200 cash in all size bills for any situation my customers had.

Lets see - how likely were you to get robbed as a waiter!?!?! Wait for it....wait for it.....HARDLY EVER.

What if his first couple of customers paid with check or credit card? Drivers are required to drop all large bills in their locker boxes after every delivery - per Papa John's policy. Don't want to buy that explaination?! - I know, I'm a manager and driver at one.

The blame lies on you - and you're just causing this guy to loose even more money! Congrats Tallbill.

Yeah well maybe next time he'll pick a company that lets him drive around with 35 dollars. I still dont see how anyone who deals in cash daily doesn't have 35 dollars. I could almost understand if he didn't have change for a 100.

Btw, chances of him getting robbed are pretty low. Maybe things are different in a bigger city.

Um - this is standard procedure at every delivery company.

Yep, at least at Round Table, i work there and i always get customers calling back in a huff about why the driver doens't have change for a $100......wtf, why don't you have anything smaller? drug dealer or what? Get a clue morons! We let most driver carry around 40 / 50 bucks, no big deal, but they're trying to buy a $12 pizza with a hundred, yeah right!
