Pizza Hut vs. Little Caesars: the question of our times

ok, wish I had a deeper topic for the morning but the little one's entertaining some of her friends soon and I thought the cheapest way to cover everyone's cheap pizza. I haven't had either in years, I've heard pizza hut has gone down significantly chain wise to keep costs down and compete (I blame the transfat ban), and little caesar's been creeping up slowly quality wise. So who's the 2017 winner for $5.99 to $7.99 2 topping large pizzas?

I'd say Pizza hut is better, but I've avoided little Cesar's for years.

Little Caesar's, doubtless. Pizza Hut isn't notably better, and definitely not worth the increased price over LC.

Pizza hut is garbage since they slid downhill in the 00s and never looked back. (in the 80s and early 90s, Pizza hut was actually damn good IMO)
Little caesars is slightly good ungarbage.

Dominos is much better than either (much tastier sauce and much better dough)

I will say the sauce & crust options available at PH are a nice touch, but still not enough to tip the scale.

Between the 2, Little Caesar's -- no contest.

If I want overly salted, greasy-ass pizza, then I'll order Pizza Hut. But with the understanding that I'm getting utility pizza for a very low price-point, you can't beat Little Caesar's.

That said, Costco Pizza > * in the cheap pizza category.

Inb4 "hur dur my local mom and pop pizza place."

I think it's notably better, but not exceptionally so. I went to PizzaHut last night, and enjoyed what I got, but it was twice as expensive as LittleCaesar. If they were side by side, I'd go to LC 9/10 times.

Pizza Hut has gotten crazy greasy over the years. I use this easy overnight skillet pizza recipe for homemade pan pizza:

http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/01/foolproof-pan-pizza-recipe.html

Comes out exactly like Pizza Hut used to be.

Little Caesers vs. Pizza Hut? Hmm. Pizza Hut does have stuffed crust, but Little Caesers is delicious in a cheap, greasy budget way lol.

Yeah, pizza hut in the 80s was buttery good delicious, last time I had it 'crazy greasy's" accurate. I remember having massive heartburn... LC I had like 10 years ago and it tasted like cardboard, but drunk-foodie blogs do seem to mention the shitty yet hits the spot charms of recent LC. I obviously have way too much time on my hand by the amount of energy I'm spending on this...

It really depends on the location itself and not the chain overall. I will say that I do prefer a Pizza Hut pan meat lovers pizza but I also grew up in the Ozarks and that pizza just hits the right spot. I haven't had Little Ceasers in a long while since we don't have one where I currently live and we only have one Pizza hut that's close and their ovens are terrible. There's one a lot further away and we occasionally have to head that way then back home and we'll sometimes pick up food from there and it's good. The Same can be said about the closest Domino's. It's terrible but the one next to the wife's work is ok. It really comes down to the ovens like all pizza. Pizza Hut/Dominos/Little Ceasers/Papa Johns all use crap ingredients so you aren't getting anything good on that front. One of my first jobs a long time ago was with a company who did maintenance on restaurant equipment and the new guys always got stuck cleaning the pizza ovens at the local pizza places. All of these chain pizza places use the conveyor fed ovens. If they are not properly cleaned and maintained they won't cook the pizza properly and you end up with all sorts of issues from underdone dough to greasy messes and most franchise owners are cheap asses.

Domino's has a large 3-topping carryout for $7.99, so I would say they win.

Pizza Hut for sure but I will say it has been many, many years since I had Pizza Hut, and I can't recall when or if I have ever had Little Caesar's....it may have actually been the 80s.

Pizza Hut's "deep dish" was a thing of beauty at one point in history. I can only imagine what a dwindling shade of its past, the current version must be.

That was a great tragedy. I used to think that PH was really delicious. Then they choose to race to the bottom on cost.

Can't recall if/when you've had LC, but say PH is better for sure? LC is much better than it was in the 80s, and PH is correspondingly worse than it was in the 80s & 90s.

Is LC the one that makes giant, flat square pizzas in a paper sheet? I seem to recall that way back when. If so, I've definitely had it and I think I only liked it because the shape was novel at the time. It never made an impression on me beyond that--also, they were pretty rare where I grew up.

Pizza Hut was the go-to for us back when it was them, Domino's and Pizza Inn, and even when Papa John's showed up. I don't doubt that things have changed. I have found that the fast food crap that I used to like has either gone to crap these days....or was truly always crap and I never had any other perspective at the time.

They used to, yes, they don't anymore.

You're just a liberal elitist
Pizza Hut was a rare treat back then, and I recall it being amazing. With Little Caesar's, it was like, hey, it's still pizza!
Either one handily beat any frozen pizza competition back then (the only one I remember is Mama Celeste, I think).

PIzza Hut has dropped in both price and quality over the last 9 years and is now at the point where I simply cannot eat it.
Little Caesars is still edible but not exactly top shelf stuff.

I'll take Jet's over PH, Little Caeser's, or Hungry Howies (the big 3 around here).

In my experience Pizza Hut is better but it also costs quite a bit more. Kinda depends what you order though.

Right now, Little Caesar's Extra Most Bestest for $6 is hard to beat. But if you order basically anything but cheese or pepperoni, you'll end up paying about the same as you could get from Pizza Hut (if they have the $7.99 2 topping large carryout deal that they've had just about always recently on their website).

Pizza Hut's hand tossed is the crust to get there. Its definitely better than Little Caesar's crust (which is just edible, its really bland, but at least they don't slather that shitty garlic butter oil shit that seems like everyone else has started; with Pizza Hut you can choose various "dressings" for the crust to get past that, I personally like the salted pretzel crust). Their pan crust has too much cheap bread (same with their pizza box deals with the squared pizzas, they're all on that crust, which is about what Little Caesar's crust is).

Breadsticks at both are crap shoot. Little Caesar's have had too much of whatever flavor stuff they put on there, but Pizza Hut tends to overcook their breadsticks).

Pizza Hut here hasn't been bad about grease, but other places (where I'd ordered from them multiple times, it was just random chance, sometimes it'd be real greasy, other times it wouldn't). Little Caesar's has been about the same. Other chains seem more greasy.

Domino's was ok, but Little Caesar's was comparable in quality but cheaper and Pizza Hut was better. Domino's sides were better (they're breadstick twists or balls were not too bad I thought).
They had a 50% off pizza deal (Pizza Hut has run that off and on, I was getting large pepperoni lover for ~$9)

Basically, if you just order simple Little Caesar's is hard to beat (but they're also tailored to that, you can stop in and get a cheese or pepperoni for $5 and be right in and out). If you special order, Pizza Hut has more options (sauces, crust options, etc).

Neither pizza is worth eating...but if you HAVE to chose one...choose Little Caesar's. The box won't have absorbed as much grease...and will be easier to digest.

I will pick the Hut over Ceasar anytime. PizzaHut is having a $10 large pizza with 10 toppings right now (at least around here...same as Papa John's).

I haven't had PH for a very long time because of the greasyness. LC I get fairly often and while it isn't great their $6 bestest or whatever is good enough as is their deep dish. We have a local chain called Gino's Pizza and Spaghetti House in Wv that also sells a $7 one topping pizza and it pretty good IMO. Still if I'm in a hurry and don't want to deal with calling something in or waiting LC's hot and ready setup is pretty sweet.
