Chicago Pizza is dough with some cheese/sauce sprinkled on it. That fancy place Giordano's is the worst!!!
Papa Johns is the best "fake pizza"
??? Do you have an aversion to flavor, quality, or am I missing something altogether?
NY is ok... But Chicago stuffed pizza can't be beat. Giordano's is consistently the best pizza you can find on this earth. I've also been all over the country, and there really is no comparison.
I guess some people prefer thin crust, (which I will never understand) and some people PREFER blandness, like my wife who thinks Papa Johns is great...
Different strokes I guess.
We can break it down to the basic elements of the pizza:
Crust:
Chicago: Normally buttery and flaky. Quite unique to each place that makes it.
NY: Baked dough. Generally not spiced in any way.
Toppings:
Chicago: Dumped in insane quantities INSIDE the pizza. The cheese glues everything together is delicious cardiac nightmare.
NY: Dumped on top. Quantity varies by location.
Sauce:
Chicago: Normally spiced with a garlic punch. Much more spices than a standard pizza. Slopped on TOP of the pizza making it easy to control your sauce distribution. (I normally don't like a lot of sauce, so I scrape the majority off, leaving the sauce that soaked into the crust and little on top. Perfect!)
NY: tomato based, under the cheese. Generally not heavily spiced. Some asshats use marinara that has no place being on a pizza.
I think we can see who is the clear winner.
Chicago pizza > NY pizza
(They're both awesome tho)
