SO lost hers in some country we were traveling through... I forgot to get insurance, blabla I would like to get a new one and she and I are a-ok with used this time.

I was looking at bluenile, not sure I want to drop a lot again ... any places that sell used, real diamond rings that are insurable? Or should I just go local?

Cz ring not gonna cut it? If you don't want to bother insuring the ring, seems to be a good logical choice. Then again sometimes logic just gets the couch...

Diamonds are virtually valueless. The good qualities of a diamond can be manufactured fairly cheaply, so the "value" of a diamond is just intangible nonsense. It's worth something because people say it's worth something. It's an international con that people haven't caught on to.

Thanks for your little political rant that no one asked for.

If buying real go to Oregon or somewhere that doesn't have state tax.
Does Blue Nile charge tax for out of state?

Moissanite is a nice alternative as it is actually as strong as diamond and has more brilliance.

Go back to school. Your teachers failed you, or more likely, you failed yourself. Nothing I said was remotely related to politics, until you get to the very outskirts of the topic, which I didn't mention.

It's hilarious how worthless used diamonds are.
Actually new diamonds are worthless to, except for the monopoly price fixing.

But if the SO looses stuff, my vote is a 20-25 carat CZ for < 25$.
More blang for your thang.

Right. They're completely worthless...except that they cost hundreds to thousands of dollars, which people are willing to pay.

That...makes them worth hundreds to thousands of dollars, doesn't it?

Your argument is kind of like saying a brick of gold is worthless, because it's just a hunk of metal.

Worth is determined by what someone will pay for something. It is not inversely proportional to your degree of envy, as you would have everyone believe.

Correction, what people are stupid enough to pay.
And only when new, you get pennies on the dollar when you sell.
Diamonds are a dime a dozen super common bland stones of worthless carbon.

There are hundreds of vastly more rare stones that are much more attractive and valuable.
Even among the "common" gemstones there are more rare options.
How many have a large, quality, natural ruby gemstone?

While everybody already has tens of carats of diamonds.
And when another dirt cheap super similar super common alternative is available at a reasonable price all the fools who wasted their money have to make themselves feel better about getting cheated...

Go to a pawn shop, but hold on to it for a while because there's a good chance it was stolen or sold without owners permission

ROFL. Keep telling yourself that, buddy. That much envy is probably not good for you.

I'm a fan of natural rubies and emeralds, as well, but anyone who thinks that a CZ is "just as good" as a diamond is guilty of three things: 1) delusion, 2) envy, and 3) never having been seriously involved with a woman.

she lost the ring. you are at an advantage here. make her feel guilty and you will get your way with anything. always bring it up during arguments. "if you loved me, you would never have lost the ring!" trust me, she would have done the same.

how much you looking to spend?

Do you really think all the rings in a jewelry store are new?

by new, I mean price basically ... they're crazy and I don't want to spend it again haha!

ummm, this can be said for everything in existence in the market ....

Typical when OP asks for advice and is shit on. Sorry bro.

Everyone here who is MARRIED to a WOMAN would feel sympathy with this man's plight. Yes we KNOW diamonds are terribly overpriced nonsense. Since SHE needs another diamond why don't you help?

I have a buddy that I trust who used to work in the jewelry business. He knows the true pricing and has been fair with me. Diamonds don't wear out or lose value, thus a used ring carried the same value at a new ring (and increases in value over time). Insist on certification and then have it verified by an independent shop, then insure it. Trust me, always worth the cost.

I am sorry you are in this plight. Shop, shop, shop, and be patient. Pick a stone, size, shape, and clarity, then shop it around until you get a deal. Good luck.
