I am just wondering what shipping options people chose and if anyone was charged for shipping.

When I checked out, all shipping options were listed as $0.00 so I chose Next Day Air. My order acknowledgement from Dell reflected free next day air shipping. However, my order confirmation from Dell had a $37 shipping charge. I called the number that was listed in the email but was told that I would have to wait until I had actually received the LCD for him to make any adjustments to the shipping charge. He then gave me the number of the department that could make changes immediately. Upon contacting that department, I was told that because my order was not an entire system but a single purchase from the Software and Accesories store, he was limited in the adjustments that he could make. He asked me to forward him the email from Dell that showed no charge shipping and when I did he attempted to remove the $37 shipping charge. While he was successful in removing the shipping charge, he also managed to remove the 10% discount! He then said that he was unable to reinstate the 10% discount and would have to forward the information to someone who could.

I guess what I would like to know is who do I call that would have complete control over a Software and Accessories order so that they can reinstate the 10% discount that the other CSR accidentally removed. I am going to wait the 24 hours that I was told it would take to correct my order. If after that time, it has not been corrected, I would like to know exactly who to contact and what number/extension to dial. Thanks in advance.

I always turn on the LCD monitor before turning on the PC, that way I will always get signal from the DVI port, I can see all the boot up and bios screens. Hope this helps.

(BTW, I am using a Geforce3 card.)

Lol, sounds like typical Dell incompetency. The same thing happened when I tried to order some speakers from them with the 20% discount. After finding out these 'in stock' speakers wouldn't be shipping for almost a month, I called and asked the woman to please downgrade my shipping from next day to ground. Not only did she fail to do that, she removed the 20% off so the order jumped up in price $20. I then called and asked if they could adjust that but it couldn't happen until the time it shipped. Funny how they can't adjust the charge until the time it ships, yet they can charge you for it even though it won't ship for a month. I then just had them cancel the order and create another one myself. Sadly, 2 days later I still got charged for the cancelled order, though it was for the original price. After a week I had to call them back and ask to credit the cancelled order, which they finally did. A week and a half ago, the status of the current order switched to 'shipped' but with no ship date. After a week of this 'shipped' status but never receiving anything, I called them back and they couldn't seem to find where this mysterious order wound up at or the actual status of it.

Bottom line is, if you order from Dell watch your order like a hawk and if something's out of whack call them up to give them a swift kick to their @ss otherwise nothing may happen.

For the PV174 I ordered it with the 10% coupon and free next day shipping with no problems however. I think Dell's online ordering system and phone ordering can't interface worth a crap. Anything the reps modify seems to strip the online order of coupon codes and such. Not a very competent ordering system they have.

Yeah, I think it's been years for me. Besides, that shouldn't make a difference anyway. If you turn a monitor on while the pc is off it's just be in the same standby mode that it would be in had you left it on, which I always do. I'm pretty sure it's the video card that is the problem here, but who knows.

Update:

I tried the analog connection and I get all the post information. Still doesn't work with the digital connection. Again, I have an ATI 7500 graphics card. Anyone with a 7500 that gets the post information with the digital connection?

I just thought I would follow up on my own post. I awoke this morning to find an email from Dell stating that they had adjusted my order. I checked the online status of my order and the price had indeed been corrected. I would like to say that while I am less than impressed with Dell's order/database/phone system setup, the humans I spoke with were curtious and as helpfull as the system would allow them to be. It was frustrating that after contacting two different numbers/extensions neither one led to immediate resolution of my problem. However, my information was forwarded to the correct department and processed within the quoted 24 hours. This is my first order from Dell and I would order from them again, although they could use some streamlining of their database access and order processing. All in all, it was reassuring that when a problem arose, it was handled in a timely manner by individuals that treated me with respect.

I have an ATI 7500 hooked up in digital. I see everything.

Keep in mind that the monitor has to be on before the computer cuts on. When using the digital connection, the video card sends the signals once the computer's on; if you turn the computer off then that digital stream is cut off and can't be resumed unless the . With analog it doesn't matter.

Also make sure you only have the DVI cable plugged in. The card detects which port you're using and caters to that port.

It was actually the reverse for me... I talked my friend into getting one but ended up not getting one for myself <sigh>.

I think I made a mistake in ordering from the Home department instead of Small Business. I ordered on Monday and the expected ship date was yesterday. Now, the order status is still pending and it does not appear to have shipped. I called Dell and they have no clue what is going on. After waiting on hold while the CSR "checked on things", I was told that they will have another department look into it. Dell has too many damn departments if you ask me ! The CSR was as helpful as the system let her be (not at all). I have been satisfied with the humans I have interacted with at Dell but their order/database system seems very finicky. It seems to work great for some and terrible for others. Guess I just lucked out eh? Also, they tried to charge me for shipping (as detailed in a previous post). I just hope that they did not switch my shipping method to ground when they removed the shipping charge. I am kicking myself for not ordering from the Small Business section, I might actually have had my monitor by now! Also, my credit card has a hold on it for the amount of the LCD, but has not been charged yet. Does that indicate that it has not shipped yet?

Well, I live in WI and Dell does charge tax but I could have used a 15% Small Business coupon instead of the 10% Home one so it would have evened out and I might have my monitor by now. So, I guess I can go ahead and kick myself, LOL. It seems like the people that ordered from Small Business had no problems with their order/shipping. I didn't realize that the Home section was so inept. I'm not sure why I didn't order from Small Business, I just didn't. Oh well, live and learn.

P.S. Are you the gosharks that works for MonitorsDirect/Cornerstone (Jim Witkowski)? Just curious.

SM Business is just as bad with orders. Don't kick yourself... its all luck of the draw with dell.

I can't blame them for hating WI people but they've screwed over a perfectly good MN person here too.
Seriously, looks like the deal is dead anyway as their prices on these things are at $759 now. So much for waiting for the credit on the returned monitor to order the correct color. I guess Dell's slow ass lost a sale here.

Dell Small Business has 15% restocking fees on non-defective returns.

Dell Home does not charge restocking fees.

I was just reading this weeks PC Magazine and they did a feature on lcd monitors. They only gave the Planar 2 out of 5 and said that image quality fell short of average. It rated near the bottom out of 16 different models. It doesn't really seem like a hot deal now, luckily I read the mag and decided against ordering it.

Really? I didn't know that. I guess I can stop kicking myself now, my ass was getting sore anyway, LOL! Thanks for the heads up, I feel better knowing that. Of course, I hope that I won't want to return it but it is nice to have the option. By the way, my estimated shipping date was originally 02/08/2002, then it changed to 02/06/2002, and is now 02/07/2002. What the heck? Are they just going to adjust the expected shipping date to the current day until it ships?
