Planar LCD

I'm looking into the PX191 too, but look what I just came across...announcement for the new Samsung Syncmaster 192T. From what I can see it has a new base and bezel but all the other specs look the same. 25ms, 500:1, 170degrees. According to this site it will be avail in June for $773. Here is the link:

The stats on the samsung don't look nearly as impressive as the Planar PX191 which has:

better contrast (700:1) even though I know that stat is somewhat arbitrary
better brightness (300cd/m2 vs. 250cd/m2 on the samsung)
I think the planar looks a lot better too =) and it looks more flexible

On a side note I think I read that Planar uses grade 0 LCDs where samsung uses grade 1 but maybe I'm wrong on that. Grade 0 means you are less likely to have dead pixels.

If you bought from Dell before the end of last week you could have gotten the Planar for $720 with free shipping so it would have cost less than the Samsung too.

Of course all that being said, here I sit still waiting for my back ordered Planar. Someone may place an order for the Samsung and have it arrive before I get my Planar =).

Bummer! I haven't received that notice from Dell yet, but I'm sure it's right around the corner. I also haven't received a response from Planar regarding their lack of stock. I may try their 800 # and see if I can get a verbal response.

At this point I'm not interested in trying out another brand or Planar model, so I'll hold out for it.

I have exciting news to report! The day after I got a notice from DELL saying the monitor won't ship before June 11th, I checked the DELL website to see that the monitor had already shipped! It went out yesterday the 29th from Portland Oregon (hardwire, looks like you were correct about planar shipping the monitors directly).

They shipped it 2 Day Federal Express. It arrived in Oakland late last night. I wonder if they will try to deliver it today or if I'm going to have to wait until Monday!

Hopefully you will have similar good news in the near future.

Yes, exciting news indeed!

After reading your post above, I also went to the order status page at Dell and saw that my PX191 was shipped today and will be here Tuesday. They won't deliver Saturday if it was shipped Thursday. Saturday isn't a normal delivery day for FedEx unless you pay extra and specifically for Saturday delivery, so odds are you'll receive it Monday.

When tracking it at FedEx, look on the Detailed Results page and it will state "Estimated Delivery Date". Mine reads "Tues. 06/03/2003 by 19:00", yours probably reads as Mon. 06/02/2003 by 19:00.

If you get a chance, you'll have to get drop by the forums on Monday night and give us your impressions of it.
