Planar PL201M 20" LCD

Does anyone have any opinions on this monitor? I'm interested in getting a new LCD for my home PC, which is primarily used for gaming. I'm also considering the Dell 2000FP. On paper, the planar seems to compare very well:

PL201M:
native resolution: 1600x1200
Viewing Angle: 85
Brightness: 250
Contrast ratio: 500
response: 25ms
price: $1009 (through Dell home)

2000FP:
native resolution: 1600x1200
Viewing Angle: 80
Brightness: 240
Contrast ratio: 350
response: 25ms
price: $859 (through Dell home)




I've also heard that the Dell 1800FP is a good choice. But I'd kinda like to get the extra screen size of a 20".

I'm interested in this too, since the Planar 201M is on sale for $899 at MonitorsDirect.com, and the dell 2000FP is on sale for the same price at Dell Home (though the 2000FP can be had cheaper if you wait for a better sale).

Any opinions?

if you are gonna spend that much money, get the new 16ms screens.

There arn't any new 16ms screens in 20" 1600x1200.

Only 17" at 1280x1024 and that isn't enough resolution for me.

Do you know otherwise?

i believe planar is going to release a 20" 16ms screen. expect to pay big bucks.

I have been keeping up on the LCD scene lately and have heard nothing about Planar releasing a 20" 16 ms. response time display soon. They just released a new 19", the PX191, but it is a 25 ms. response time display.

25 ms. is very good. Better than the average 30-50 ms. that many screens are at that produce very noticable smearing, but 25 ms. still is not fast enough to produce NO ghosting/smearing in fast moving games (i.e. first persoon shooters). It is slight, and I've decided it's tolerable, but it is there.

I want no ghosting/smearing myself and would love a 16 ms. pixel response time, but I'm not willing to go to a 17" screen to get it.

I've got a 201M and it's breathtaking. Especially if you have a DVI input - I can't imagine a better, brigther picture (LCD or CRT). Additionally, as mentioned above, for the price of ~$1,000 it's a really hard bargain to beat.

How is gaming on it? With a 25 ms response time, there has to be some smearing/ghosting...

For me, while I can't go back to 17 inches from my current 20" viewable 21" CRT that I've had for three years, I also can't justify the extra $300 - $400 dollar price jump for just the one inch difference between a 19" and a 20".
