I couldn't stand Wellstone's, communist, anti-american politics when he was alive, so I'm not gonna glorify him now that he's dead, or change my tune and say all nice things about him just because he's dead. On a personal level, It's sad that a man and his family died, however I won't shed any tears for him.

Anybody want to place bets on how long it will take before the cries of "Republican conspiracy" start?

Shows what happens if you challenge George II on Iraq.

Shows what happens to YOU and YOUR family if you challenge Dubya and his thieves.

Let the investigations begin. Lets see a GOP hand in this crash. I am all for the scandals. G W Bush has caused America more blood, death, economic loses, misery than all presidents pulled together. His time is near.

Hey, 0roo0roo, Explain this?

Why not just apologize to shinerburke now and beat the rush?

wtf?

and your kettle comparison was a bit thin.

The only thin thing here is the toothpick you need to get those pieces of crow from between your teeth.

I'd probably utter similar words upon hearing the news of your demise.

let's just pick a time and a place, and have a go at it Red.

As for Wellstone, well, by running for his 3rd term, he was breaking a term limit pledge that he made in 1990, and again in 1996 saying he would only serve two terms. I guess someone upstairs was just enforcing his pledge for him.

AaronP -- I doubt that you have a clue about the definition of the word, communist with a small or capitalized C. The late Senator Wellstone would probably take insults from a moron like you as a compliment, but it's a shame to see depth of your inhumanity when the subject of your lies has just died. :disgust:

Tell me, Harvey, how would you be acting in a thread that announced the accidental death of the CEO of Philip Morris?

Red's old and slow, Aaron could probably outrun him . . . but I don't know anybody that can outrun a bullet.

Amused -- I would rather see the president of Philip Morris in jail and otherwise pay for his crimes. I certainly wouldn't be expressing pleasure at his death. I'll save my glee at someone's death for the likes of Hitler, Pol Pot and Slobodan Milosovic.

No one here expressed pleasure... Just a lack of grief and/or compassion.

And the tobacco companies have committed no crimes. They sell a LEGAL product.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but the DFL (I believe) is thinking about asking Former Vice President Walter Mondale (74 years old) to run in Welstone's place.

Another possibility is former Minnesota Viking great Alan Paige.

Alan Paige? Wow then Minnesota would have a Pro Wrestler as a Governor and a Purple People Eater as a Senator

If they could get Chicholina from Italy to run, she could be a purple pen** eater as a Senator.

What can I say, we like our sports

I believe Alan Paige is a state supreme court justice actually. He talked at my local high school about 5 years ago which was pretty big for a town of 4,000 people.

whats thin is how you can't see the difference between justifying your attack on a dead man by bringing up an attack on an ill man and a person pointing out the attack not for the purpose of justification but to expose.

poor amused one. ussually your pretty logical, but you missed it this time.

The man's dead, so his politics don't matter anymore.... as the expression goes, "the sun shines on the just and wicked alike." No matter what part of the political spectrum you fall on, we lost several American citizens today. It's one more time i'll have to hear Taps being played, and i've come to really hate that song.

Pay your respects to the man and his family today, once the body gets cold then if you want to return to talking about the man's politics, fine.

This is going to be quite interesting with Ventura (Independent) having the ability to appoint a Senator for 2-3 months, thus possibly changing temporarily the make up of the Senate. Now the drudge report is trying to drop the name of Fritz Mondale to run as the Democrat candidate (Don't know if he will at age 74) But, Mondale and the bumbling idiot, Skip Humphrey are the only big name recognitions for the Democrats in Minnesota right now.

Ventura has already announce that he WILL NOT place himself as the Senator for the next 2 months. My guess is that Ventura will appoint his Lt Governor as the Senator for the next two months, and letting her be Minnesota's first female Senator and not tipping the Senate over to the Republicans for the next 2-3 months.

A tragic accident happened here in MN. today and 8 people lost their lives, why don't we as a community here at Anandtech show a little compassion and save the flame wars for when they may be a bit more appropriate.

My heart goes out to the remaining members of his family, I can't imagine what they must be going though today. I look back to when my wife's sister died at the age of 31, the loss they all felt as a family was tremendous.

Senator Wellstone and I could not have been farther apart politically on most issues and because of that I never voted for him and would not have this year either. I do give him credit for standing up for what he believed and not giving in on those beliefs. That was one thing I admired about him in that you always knew that he wasn't going to stick his finger in the air to see which way the political winds where blowing.

Hmm... I wonder who here morns the hundreds of innocent babies killed each day by abortion.
Wellstone was a democrat who supported such "choices".... I consider his and his families death a late, late term abortion.
Ironic justice isn't it?

Your account has just been aborted!

This is very sad indeed.

His daughter, Marcia, was my Spanish teacher in high school. I did not agree with Senator Wellstone's politics, but he seemed like a very genuine person and this was reflected in his daughter (she was very nice and caring). She had a young son who was ~3 years old at the time (1998), who she talked about a lot and brought into class one day. This is a tragedy to their family. Thankfully, he didn't lose his father at least.
