Planescape: Torment (best computer RPG IMO) $7.90

This is the best RPG ever made for the computer IMO. They put so much effort into the story that it is almost like reading a book at points (and a very good book at that). Hightly reccomend for any RPG fans.

From this statement I gather this is more of a Final Fantasy-type game rather than Baldur's Gate-type? My personal preference is towards open-ended RPG's, so I'll have to pass.

No, no, no, no!. And no. As I understand it, the Final Fantasy games are basically battles plus fixed cut-scenes and are pretty linear.

Fallout 1-2 and Planescape are all very open-ended. They all have a central storyline like BG except that it's more detailed.

Like BG you can be good, neutral, or evil except that too is more developed and in Planescape your alignment is determined by the computer based on your interactions with the non-player characters. Help someone and don't demand a reward? Then Planescape nudges your alignment towards lawful good. Cheat someone and you become closer to chaotic evil. There are similar moral choices in the Fallout games.

FO and Planescape are both open-ended. Like BG you can wander about and decide whether or not to pick up side quests, and unlike BG there are a bunch of multiple endings: FO shows you the fate of every city you visit (based on your actions) and Planescape has at least 4 distinct endings.

Torment has quite possibly the most sophisticated storytelling I've ever encountered... I wouldn't be surprised if the writer of Memento had played this game. The game is -very- open ended, in that you can solve problems in a variety of ways, each bearing its own consequences. If anyone's ever read Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" (10 vols) and liked it, they would love this game. This game is far, far better than Morrowind, in my opinion, and infinitely better than Baldur's Gate (can't speak for the sequel.)

I havent had the time to finish it yet(been playing other games). But from what I've played, it is a cool game. Just don't expect spectacular graphics,it's 640x480. It's 2D, but the artistic work of the artists really stands out in the graphics. Very original textures, etc...
Very intriguing gameplay, trying to figure out who is your character. (Your character has amnesia.)

Amnesia huh? Kinda curse of the azure bonds style. I love RPG's so I went ahead and picked it up. I'll need something to play over the summer and after finding out that Magic The Gathering online is going to necessitate buying digital cards, I was happy to find something else.

I'm going to go ahead and give it another bump just because I love this game so much (definently in my Top 5 favorite games of all time).

And as the above mentioned, Gettysburg is only 2.90. That is a pretty decent game. I had a lot of fun with it, though it wasn't a top 10 or anything. But for 2.90 it is a steal and well worth it.

is there a patch to play this game above 640x480? I can't stand games at low resolution. Had to wait for Heart of Winter to come out before I play Icewind Dale just because of this.

Actually this game looks pretty good at 640x480, even on my 19" monitor! Looks better than Diablo II imho.

That's wierd!!! I found it lasy night on compusa for 4.99 and for only 5.00 shipping (as opposed to 5.99 from gogamer) but all their disclaimers scared me and it never said if it is coming in a box with a manual or not. I called but they said to call back business hours. I just called and they couldn't find it and then I tried looking for it myself and I can;t find it either. What could have happened to it? It was just there yesterday. Am I right in being fearful it would not come with a manual and a box???

You can get this game and another one (Soulblighter or something) for 9.99 at Wal-Mart or Target. They have a bunch of old games packaged in twos for 10 bucks. I got the fallouts over christmas break.
