I am skeptical that such an endeavor could take place in the time frame that they propose, but admittedly, I am not an astronomer or an aeronautical engineer, nor do I keep up with space flight news. However, what I find interesting about their proposal is their way of funding the mission - get the masses and the entertainment business involved. Why not? If you ask people to fund NASA, you'll get nothing but protests and endless debate. Ask the same people to fund a reality show that takes place in space, or on another planet, and all of a sudden purses and wallets start to open.

I'm only half-kidding.

I'm looking at the pictures, and from 2023 to 2025 it looks like they start using the Martian regolith(sp?) for radiation shielding. So then is the first group that goes in 2023 with no radiation shielding a sacrifice or something?

Hard to say, if you're going to spend the money and invest the time to "go" there, why not just set it up to at least stay there? We can explore w/o human interaction these days. No reason to send anyone unless you want to do more than explore.

It looks like they did talk to SpaceX about getting hardware and launch systems which is probably why the video shows a Dragon Capsule landing on Mars. Not sure of what the actual connection between them is.

Very cool idea and I wish this team the best. I feel like progress in space exploration will only be made by private companies these days, too much red tape and bureaucracy through government bodies like NASA. Hell, if these guys need extra money in their budget, I bet they can find fundings through something like Kickstarter I truly wish these guys the best and I hope to see history being made in 2023.

If you all view through the site, they plan to use SpaceX's rockets.
