Hope you don't mind but I'll put Halik's, easier to read verion of the deal up here first. Then if you want to confuse yourself you can read my original post.

(From Halik)
EDITIED FOR READABILITY

OK, I haven't actually done this, but it seems pretty doable in theory at least:

Staples will have Item #503796 on sale for $150 -10IR -40MIR = $100
BB will have it for $140 -10MIR- 40MIR = $90

So, purchase it at Staples along with $21 in filler materials** your total will be $150+21-10 = 161, now PM the after rebate price to BB after rebate price you should get $11 back (meaning, $150-21 +21(filler) = $150). Now pull out your $30 off $150 coupon and get it down to $120 plus tax. Now there is a $40 MIR on the Staples drive, and hopefully $20 MIR on the FAR stuff.

$150
-10IR
-11PM
+21(FAR stuff)
-30 (coupon)
-40 (MIR)
-20 (More MIRs)
==== $60

Of course, you COULD try to PM to BB before they know about the rebate, you might be able to get
$140 -44 (PM) +4 (FAR Items) -20 (coupon) -40 (MIR)-4 (FAR Rebate) = $26 (I'd call this YMMV greatly).
My note: probably wont work, they have time ranges on the mir's

**(I'd suggest FAR items, Item #488016 is 20 with 15 MIR for sure, I'm sure others have better FAR items)

Here was my original post:

OK, I haven't actually done this, but it seems pretty doable in theory at least. Many know the thread last week on Staples Item #503796, the Maxtor 120gb HD, which I can confirm haven gotten for $85, no rebates, and with 8mb cache (others got 3 yr warranty, I only got 1 year). Now, Staples will have this item on sale for $150-10IR-40MIR = $100 next week, and BB will have it for $140-10MIR-40MIR = $90. So, purchase it at Staples along with $21 in filler materials (I'd suggest FAR items, Item #488016 is 20 with 15 MIR for sure, I'm sure others have better FAR items) your total will be $150+21-10 = 161, now PM the after rebate price to BB after rebate price (this shouldn't be a big deal, as you're PMing AFTER Staples's rebate price) you should get $11 back, meaning, $150-21+21=$150. Now pull out your $30 off $150 coupon (and business rewards card) and get it down to $120 plus tax. Now there is a $40 MIR on the Staples drive, and hopefully $20 MIR on the FAR stuff. So $150-10IR-11PM+21(FAR stuff)-30 (coupon) -40 (MIR) -20 (More MIRs) = $60. By the way, does anyone have better FAR Items?

One problem. The drive at Staples is on sale not next week, but a week after that. You can't PM on previous sales.

So I can get it for $71 if I don't PM? Since the first PM takes away only $11?

There are several weeks of lead time so the ads can be printed and info then can be leaked by insiders.

Seems like a good deal for $71 even without PM...I don't like PM very much, so much hassle.

Thanx for the info, SC.

OK, it should have been this I guess (the PM is to BB which is at $89.99)
$140 -55 (PM) +15 (FAR Items) -20 (coupon) -40 (MIR)-15 (FAR Rebate) = $25

Can anyone confirm? If true this may throw a wrench in the deal, bring it back to around $80, unless there is another easy PM.

nothing better than a deal that begins, "I haven't done this, but..."

show us a receipt.

From another board in a thread titled

"Early peek at Staples deals for 3/16 to 3/29 (Maxtor 120GB and 50-pack CD-Rs for $73 AR/AC)"

"Maxtor 100+20GB 7200 (503796) = $150 - $10 IR - $40 MIR = $100"

Sorry if I'm a little wordy, I need to use white space a little more . The first method should work (it might take a little work, and the only part in question at all is an $11 PM), I put YMMV and YMMV greatly respectively, so there's no need to say "oh this isn't gonna work" (obviously you need to be blessed that day to get it for $26)

Hmmm.

Let's say I wanted to be dumb and go in right now and purchase the drive from Staples, not knowing there was going to be a rebate offered two weeks from now (how would I know? I'm not psychic!)

Once the flyer comes out advertising the rebate, if I went in to PM the drive at that time, would Staples credit me the rebate price immediately? Anyone ever tried this?
