<< Getting something for ones own personal use is capitalizing on a good situation, getting multiple unneeded items for sale at a profit is theft. Why don't you just get a gun and a ski mask, and hold all of the OD employees hostage while an accomplice steals all the routers.......it would be less work and more dignified......further, I would never brag about my thievery in every one of my posts to this thread. I am not holier than thou........just a little classier. I also will attempt to get ONE router for free as I needed ONE and I have purchased ONE and am now using that ONE. I would also like for others in this forum to have the opportunity to get themselves ONE. You could have at least lied and said you had six family members and needed all six for them.

On a related note....I was in Blockbuster a couple of weeks ago and there was a bin of Mad Catz video game accessories (controllers, mem cards, cables) all marked down to $1.99. This was an incredible deal as some of these items were originally $19.99!! There were at least 3 other people trying to get at some of these items (a couple had whiny kids with them) when the jerk@@f at the front turned and called out to his buddy "as soon as we get all these, we are going straight to the the pawn shop"". Everyone stopped dead in their tracks with their mouths hanging open. Was that guy you Goober???
>>

I don't know where you got that definition of theft, but it's silly.

Whatever. You don't know who I am, what I do and how I behave in private and/or public. Doing this kind of stuff is a hobby of mine. I'd make much more money if I sat around and did actual work rather than buying and Ebaying and communicating in AT forums. But, I get a kick out of it and I'm not hurting anyone (notwithstanding your definition of theft).

Anyway, thanks for your admonition, but I'll choose to ignore it.

Edit: By the way, conversations debating the ethics of ebaying hot deals takes place ad nauseum on these forums. Everyone has their take on it. So, again, whatever.

Flomokev, yes, I've got that link in my list of helper sites...but what I'd really like to know is, is this thing easy to setup? Hmm, perhaps I should just ask, if I follow all of the instructions on that site, will it be easy to connect? Oh, and are there any little loopies, like, the "oh yeah, you needed to know that if the...was...then you needed to set it to...." instructions you wished you had.

Here's an example, I got a free 6 month sub to MSN for ISP just before Christmas and since I was going to visit my parents, I wanted to have it set before going there (I would use their system's dialer to access my account and all would be heaven). I setup the account without testing it; I just did the sign-up. When I tried to dial in at my parent's house in the mountains, it wouldn't connect. Technical at MSN finally, after 4 reps and 5 resets of my password said...well, you have to precede your username by "MSN/" before it will work...

So, when I ask, is it easy...could a liberal arts grad handle this even if they weren't a mind reader? Thanks and even though I'm laughing, I need to know if I should have the more technically competent higher order nerds around before attempting this. LOL

Gee, I never thought about frying the little guys...seems like if all else fails, frying cures bad taste...do you in fact, gut the little guys? Hey, I'm thinking of anchovies and fish that weigh about 6 ounces. How big are these mullet things?

First, there is probably thousands posters who have forgotton more about this product, then I have learned. Reading your info, I get the impression you're getting on the internet with a dial-up account. Also did you figure to configure everything, then dial-in to MSN and leave for a week or two. I guarantee that most ISPs would disconnect you in about two hours, unless you ran a ping program.

Start with a broadband connection and have something beside one computer to connect to the router.

Good luck

feel free to PM me as far as setting up the router, include what service you are using (@Home cable, AOL dial up, etc).

it is easy, and if I dont answer right away, check out dslreports.com forums (we rock, and we are winning the SETI race too )

Thanks...as always I shall boldly go forward and make this connection...here's my assumption: Linksys wouldn't be selling these at the Office Depot channel if it were impossible to function.

Don't forget guys, tomorrow the 12th is the postmark deadline for sending off the $100 rebate. I am sending it in just like any other except that it is addressed to: OFFICE DEPOT / LINKSYS $100 Just like the rebate says. Oh and I Did include a Color copy of the shelf tag [Thanks Branded and Rally1!] I kept copies of everything and will wait to see what happens. I figure there must be many who saw the shelf tag, bought it and don't get online here. They will be expecting the rebate and so will I. I think OD should know that and will have to make arrangements with Linksys. Got my fingers crossed!!

But just remember, be cool and...

You won't have any problems. The web interface makes it pretty easy to access the router setup options. Much better than telnet interfaces in my opinion.

A lot depends on the OS that you are using. The router will work with ANY OS. It will just work easier
with some that with others. If you are using Broadband to share Internet access and using Win 98/ME/XP it should be straight forward. You WILL have to go the Network properties and ensure that you have TCP/IP activated there. The router will probably support DHCP and if so then just set up your client to obtain an IP address automatically and you should be "good to go".

Things get a little trickier when you try to do some fancier things within your own "home" network.

to send the original upc for the rebate - which upc we need to send? there is one OD paper sticker which has the UPC, SKU etc, but not the UPC barcode and then there is the UPC barcode on the linksys box itself. is it enough if i just send the outside OD sticker. i don't want to cut the UPC from the cardboard box, just in case the rebate doesn't go through and i have to return it to OD.

So this rebate is going to work, isn't it? What do I need to do? Just send it in like nothing happened or I have to make some call or something?
Those of you who bought it on the web, where do you get your rebate forme? I ordered one from OD.com but no rebate form came with it.

Not sure about others, but my OD $100 rebate says postmarked no later than February 12 -- not tomorrow.

I just got an e-mail from OD customer service confirming that Linksys will honor
"the amount shown on your rebate form" which to me says that those of
us who bought in B&M and got the register form that says $100 are golden
but if you bought from OD.com or got a register receipt that says $10 you
probably are not going to get it for free.

It is nice to have something so black and white in writing now, so that I know
this is free (actually I will make about $30 for buying it).

Don't forget, the OD portion of the rebate ($10) has to be postmarked by 1/19, but
you still have a month to get/send in the Linksys part.

Here is what the e-mail that I got said (it doesn't mention Sunday through Tuesday purchases, although
I purchased online on Tuesday, but picked it up and got the $100 rebate receipt printed on Wednesday,
so who knows). Based upon both of the (different) replies, it sounds like as long as your receipt
shows $100 in both places, you are covered, but if it doesn't, you are going to only get $20 in rebates.

How great is that? Not only on this thread but I received a phone call from ODepot stating what everyone already knows: that the $100 rebate is good. The company's signage making department apparently got it wrong and OD is standing tall and followed through with Linksys. Now, that's (OD) a very customer oriented company that knows how to do PR the right way.
