If possible, if anyone is using my receipt scan, please omit or cut the top part off. The top part includes the employee, register, store information. I don't think it would present a problem. And to the guy who posted my receipt, can you please alter the picture to not show the information at the top? I don't want to get the employee in trouble. The employee number is listed at the top.

I anticipate that this one may take a trip to the small claims court to actually prevail; if you believe that may be the result, I'd suggest that the cash register receipt and the rebate output have the same time, employee number, etc. Anticipate that a good defense to this issue is one of those things called "intentional fraud". Just a heads up.

I picked one up tonight at the OD near Washington Square in Beaverton, OR and I think they still have some left, in lockup... Printed out both the $100 and $10 rebates, but I am kind of holding my breath on this one.

Beaver is saying that OD is claiming its a typo and may not honor the rebate according to this thread here.

<< The manager (a gentleman) kindly told me they just got memo from OD headquarter. The $100, IT"S A TYPO. The real rebate is only $10. I told the manager "but I saw the AD at a local B&M"."You need to talk with them then". "Do you still want it?" "Yes, and please use my $20off$100 coupon". The coupon was taken and the receipt was printed out, still with the $110 ($100+$10) rebate. The boy told me again, "you will only get $10+$10 rebate, the $100 is a typo". >>

I guess I will wait a few days to see what becomes of it. One thing to consider is if push comes to shove on this with OD, you might try disputing this with your credit card company, provided you have photocopies of rebates as documentation....

Fraud on the part of whom--the purchaser? If you are a lawyer, could you please elaborate? I've included the prima facie elements of fraud for your convenience.

- an individual or an organization intentionally makes an untrue representation about an important fact or event;
- the untrue representation is believed by the victim (the person or organization to whom the representation has been made);
- the victim relies upon and acts upon the untrue representation;
- the victim suffers loss of money and/or property as a result of relying upon and acting upon the untrue representation

I understand that these are obviously rebuttable, but I'm not sure theat OD can make even a colorable argument.

Just had a discussion with the manager at my Office Deopt. First, he verified that the rebate was, infact a "typo" and that since the same computer that generates the shelf tag also generates the rebate based upon use input, thus both the rebate and the shelf tag agreed with each other. I subsequently explained that I already cut the UPC and if they were not going to honor the rebate that they would have to take back a "open box" plus honor the two ten dollar rebates. I pointed out that across the country that eating the $20.00 and an open box router would likely cost office depot as much. He reported to me that EACH INDIVIDUAL STORE will be deciding how they are going to deal with this. LUCKILY, my store only sold 3 routers (their entire stock) to myself and my 2 friends. They felt it was their responsibility to stand behind their mistake and make it right...SO what my store is going to do is CREDIT me back $90.00 and allow me to rebate the other $20.00. This manager has told me that this is NOT a corprate descision and that NOT all stores will handle it this way. Once I get my credit I will gladly scan and e-mail the receipt showing the credit to someone here if they want to post it. HOWEVER, Please DO NOT PM me to get this receipt as I will not have time to send it out to multiple individuals. If someone wants to host the receipt please feel free to PM me your e-mail address. I will not be getting this until around 1-2 pm 1/10/02. Hope all of the above helps some of you and my condolances to those who end up getting screwed.

My guess is that we REALLY won't know how this will play out for a couple months, but

$100 makes it worth their time to thoroughly check for multiple rebates at the same address, and any other type of scam like improper use of coupons etc.

They may also just wait to see how many properly filled out and on time rebate forms they get. If they weed out the people who grabbed more than one unit, plus the ones that screw up sending it in, the net price may not be that bad.

Well, there's anoher problem there. For the $100.00 rebate, there is no stated limit per name/household/address.

right Goober...that's why I hesitate to get more involved in providing these missives; to wit, the party perverting the truth for inducement to...my comments relate to the "use" of receipts, etc. I suggested a weighing of the consequences, not a legal discussion of the elements of fraud, which as you must know, is dependent upon the statutory context. I have no other comment on this.

lefort, appreciate your willingness to share the information. You probably have the "best of breed" in customer service going on at your OD outlet. Hope they follow through as stated.

Ok guys, the FREE DEAL IS DEAD!

But the "Good" Deal is ongoing...

Just got back from OD, Router is $99 - $20 coupon - $10 MIR from OD - $10 MIR from Linksys = $59 + tax

The rebates are NOW printing out the correct $10 + $10, but HEY wake up people, a $240 router/switch for $59?

THIS IS STILL A HOT DEAL!!!

I don't really even need this thing [yet] But I bought one anyway!!!

Ok... I stand corrected. $240 is what OD says is the list price. Street price is closer to $70 + shipping.

I may have to think about taking it back.... Hmmmmmm

Whether the list price was $240 or $188, the new price and rebates reflect this product is old technology. It been on the market better then two years and has been a well known seller. It really been helped by the rapid growth in the DSL and Cable markets, especially by homeusers. Also computers system prices have dropped so low, a household now can purchase at least two, maybe three computers, for the cost of an old Packard-Bell.

Wireless seems to be the hot networking technology right now. It look like Linksys decision was to seriously slash the price, on the BEFSR41 to broaden it market. Linksys immediate intend was to get homeowners off the fence on subscribing to a broadband ISP with the goal that if the consumer purchased this product, then that the same consumer would buy a NIC, cable, and other items with the name Linksys on the box. The long term goal probably would be convincing a few customers who sent in the rebates to buy a BEFW11S4 and related hardware.

Check your rebate forms from today,
Went with a friend at lunch, he got the only one they had,
and his linksys form says $10 at top and $100 at bottom ! ! !
Still possible to get it, if you feel like fighting,
With the scaned shelf tag, I'm sure they will still pay $100.
If not just return it in 3 months

That's okay for people keeping the thing. But, I plan on Ebaying these guys off soon, so I'm prepared for a major fight on this, since I won't have the option of returning the item.

I'm planning on giving mine to my inlaws, for thier DSL. I got the SMC at Cusa in Sept.
So I wont have one around to return either,
I don't mind passing the deal along, but if it ends up costing me 60 bucks I wont be feeling so generous...
Hopefully if it turns out to be store by store mine will be helpfull.

<< How about posting that email, I think we would all appreciate it. >>

Kevin,

Please fill out all of the rebate forms and send them in to the addresses
listed. The $10 rebate is from Office Depot but the $100 one is from
Linksys. Both will pay your rebate.

For real? That's awesome!

But, I wonder what prevents anyone now from loading up on these things and sending in the rebate forms from the prior purchases.
