Hmm - so because the CEO didn't give a release date/price for the PlayBook, and didn't say when BlackBerry phones would get QNX, it makes sense that the company would "founder"....and apparently, the definition of "foundering" is "selling more devices than you ever have before".

I didn't mean sales...

Kara & Walt couldn't follow what the hell Lazardis was saying and his responses were pretty odd. DBZ has hinted the corporate culture was/is not good inside RIM.

Lazardis wasn't concise and didn't present a clear vision of what RIM has in mind, I understood what he meant, but it wasn't a good tight sound bite.

Lazardis really needs to find people inside RIM who are capable of putting together a proper polished demo. While the Playbook itself was impressive, the demo was quite awkward. Lazardis seemed flustered when answering the hosts questions and he kept tripping over that silly cameraman.

We all know this is a prerelease device, but there is so much at stake there is really no excuse for demos to appear as if they were arranged by a bunch of freshmen.

Come on RIM, we know you can do better than this...

I agree,

IMO, Apple is the best at these demos. All of their demos whether it be iPads, iPhones, or Macbooks have always been top notch. There has also been times that right after the demo has finished you can order the product right away. You go to Apple.com and you're greeted with a fullscreen banner of the new hot item.

This happened with the Macbook Air and the advertising for it on their website was phenomenal. By comparison, if you go to Dell's or HP's website there is no advertising involved let alone a spotlight for their new item.

I think that's largely due to the difference in management. I'm hardly a fan of Steve Jobs or Apple but I have to give them credit for being able to put on a good show for the press and fans when they put out a new product.

Dell did do a pretty good job of building up excitement for the Inspiron Duo but other products like their phones didn't have much of an impact at launch.

I think Dell did an ok job with the Duo, I thought the commercial was cool, but if you go to Dell's website its not even on the front page. Also their sweet new Dell V130 frontpage ad sucks. If its thin and lightweight, why would you show a picture of the laptop from above.

Here's another comparison:

Samsung Galaxy Tab
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab

Apple iPad
http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/

Notice how Samsung tries to shove their tablet down your throat to get you to buy it, whereas Apple offers up a very compelling rundown of the iPad's features first. The very last tab on the iPad's page is the "buy now" button.

You have to convince the consumer first that its a worthy product then get them to buy it. Hopefully RIM has a better sales pitch cooked up than Samsung or other vendors for that matter.
