Playing older DOS based games

Just upgraded to a new system from dual boot win 95/Dos 6 system to WinMe.

I set up a dual boot system with WinMe/dos but found out MsDos will not recognize my SBL 5.1 card. Creative told me that dos does not recognize any PCI based cards. My new system does not have any ISA slots.

I want to play my older Dos based games under a native Dos environment with sound support and not in a Dos window.

Do I need to install Win 98 and boot to Dos from there?

Can someone lead me through this?

I don't think you can have SBLive in native DOS, whether it's WinME or Win98....

Why don't you want to play in a DOS shell?

Simply because some good old games won't run under the windows enviroment...

Have you tryed installing the full set of drivers from the creative CD, and run the
"sbcfg" and "sbinit" in dos....I don't have a Live but this usually works with my pci128...

I have a SB Live and I use it in DOS all the time. I formatted a floppy to make a boot disk and created my own autoexec.bat and config.sys files. Everything works fine in DOS. In game setup menus I have had to choose Sound Blaster Pro as my Card. Make sure that your IRQ and DMA are correct. Good luck!

Apparently there are dos drivers on the SBL installation disc.

I was unable to get them to install using win me, when I contacted Creative tech support they told me the drivers would not load from the CD under Winme as winme had no native dos support. They thought they might work with win 98.

I wonder if the drivers would work with dos.

I tried loading the drivers from an old SB 16 card but setup told me it did not find a card on port 220. I tried 240,260,280 without luck.

Creative, the soundcard people actually told you that DOS doesn't recognize any PCI soundcard!. You just need to what "Drekce" says......cmon.

Yeah, dude, just make (or get from a friend or off the web) a DOS boot floppy and put the correct drivers for the SB on there and cook up the proper autoexec.bat and config.sys files. You'll also have to add CD-ROM drivers to the disk and those files for the CD drive to work when you boot from the floppy.

It doesn't matter what OS is on the hard drive if you boot from a floppy.
