Haruspex (dream/hunting) is pretty unbeatable.

I just started TQ (thanks to the D2D deal) and that's my first character. Hunting first and Dream at level 8.

That's what I did. You should decide at some point if you'd rather focus on spear or bow, but Haruspex is crazy overpowered either way.

I tried both, but have settled on spear.

Overpowered sure, but a good character for someone completely new to the game and genre (I never played D2 much). Good way to lean the game I think.

 for the spear. I've read that a bow harpusex is so overpowered that it makes the game less enjoyable. The spear harpusex is still very powerful but should make for a more-enjoyable game.

Hunting/Defense and Warfare/Spirit both sound like fun builds. My guy's progressing along pretty well. I'm level 22 Ranger (Hunting/Nature) with these skills. My gear's pretty good too, but I'm lacking a completed artifact. I have a really nice one with all the required items except for one monster charm. I wish I could just buy a monster charm.

If you don't want to farm the charms and you're not opposed to cheating, you can use TQ Vault to duplicate them, but that takes out a little of the reward I think.

I need some sweet gear, though. Somebody give me some.
TQ Vault. If you have one item of a set, you can right click on it and add all the other items of a set.

What? I didn't know that. Will have to do it tonight.

That's nice to know, but I don't exactly want to cheat. If there were a way out there to just download the best equipment in the game and place it in the vault, that would totally take the fun out of it.

Farming is probably the way to go. It's some sort of poison charm that spiders drop, so I'll probably have to go back a ways to find the last cave of spiders in the game.

Actually, I just found a relic/charm farming guide. I need one more venom sac, and it says I can find them between Rhakotis and the Rhakotis library, which I just passed.

I certainly understand why you hate farming. You have to get philosophical about the whole thing.

I buy and play video games for fun, for entertainment. Grinding and farming are NOT fun. They take away from the fun. Thats why I dont play MMO's. I know that if I piss away enough time I will eventually get all the relics and charms I need. I also know that if I spend that much time farming I will get pissed off and hate the game. Thats silly. Why on earth would you waste money and time on something just to end up hating it?
The only thing I dont like about Titan Quest is the farming, and since it is so darn fun in every other aspect I see no reason I shouldnt speed up one of the more annoying elements of gameplay. It helps make the game more enoyable overall and I still have fond memories of it.

Thats why I give myself 100,000 components and chemicals in KOTOR 2. You still cant make certain items unless your skills are high enough, so I cant give myself any super-duper items I shouldnt have. But having to run around and build up either inventory or money to have stuff to slowly break down to make other stuff eventually is just a huge pain, and a time-waster. I dont waste time on it, so I dont hate the game.

It's been awhile since I played TQ. I didn't try too many different class combos out back then, and after getting IT I just ran the ones I'd already been playing through the new level. Now I'm getting the urge to dig this back out to play some more.

A heads up when you kill Hades, be on the lookout for a small turtle as it's the key to a secret area. When you do get to go in, beware the big red skeleton. He has the ability to reflect dmg you do to him back at you. With my dual wielder I ended up one hit killing myself when I scored a massive crit hit on him.

It makes sense not to want to farm. I remember the days of having to level for hours and hours in the early Final Fantasy games, so a little bit of farming for charms and relics isn't too bad. I farmed for 20-30 minutes and found a venom sac. I was all excited about getting my artifact until I saw that I only had 2/5 instead of 4/5. So I still needed 2 more charms. I said screw it and just continued on the game. I was fortunate enough to come along a big desert with tons of scorpions and found 2 more venom sacs. I completed my artifact. OMG!!! My DPS went from 140 to 217!!! It's the shroud of eternal night and does the following:
  • 10 Damage
21 Poison Damage over 3.0 Seconds
40 Energy Leech over 2.0 Seconds
    10 Piercing Damage
    20% Vitality Damage Resistance
    25% Stun Resistance
    +60 Health
    +10% Attack Speed
    +8% Attack Speed (completion bonus)
This part of the game went from being difficult to easy. I'm sure this is nothing compared to items later in the game, but to find something at the beginning of Act 2 (actually I found the artifact in Act 1) that increases DPS by 50% is pretty incredible.

You'll find resitances are more critical than DPS as the game goes on. For example, Stun Resistance is vital for a tank character.

Given how pretty the engine is I wished there were a few total mods. Had sort of hope the folks remaking ultimate would switch to titan quest engine (or even dungeon siege ii; I cannot stand dungeon siege).

I've been playing Titan quest religiously since its release. My wife and I have beat it on legendary with multiple player setups.. We probably have well over 200 blue and purple items.. With I'm pretty sure every artifact made ( greater and lesser).

You can seriously make some interesting builds with this game.. My favourite for magic using is "Earth/Storm", you get a spell that surrounds you in flaming rock (works great in legendary when the deaths come frequently). Dream/Warrior is the way to go if you want all damage..I managed to get 12000 Dps with that character (without battle marker or mods).

Great game, cant wait for Diablo 3.

On a side note I actually got into a big enough argument that I rarely talk to the guy anymore because he wouldn't admit that Titan quest( a game he wouldn't play) was like Diablo 2 (a game he loved).

Sorry man its true.
I used to worry about my earth/storm characters DPS a lot. I'd kill myself trying to rearrange equipment and charms to get her a couple more points of damage.
Late in the first campaign I realized I was getting stomped way too easily. Eventually it was mostly one-hit-deaths. I finally rearranged everything for maximum armor and resistance. My DPS went down a lot, but I survived much longer and that was a huge difference.
Worst part was moving on to the 2nd campaign and all my elemental resistances dropped. That was miserable.

Some tips for getting over 1000 DPS by level 15.. (requires you to have a build in Legendary 0r Epic Hades).

You can buy items in the later levels with ridiculous damage (100 - 120 damage with 25% attack speed + other stuff) and if you look properly some will work on a LVL 11 character. Buy one of those with the lowest Strength and Dex requirements..

Then when you make your new character don't give him any skills in the skill tree, just go straight up the the far left column unlocking more skills and adding Str/Dex/Int. With a couple of %str rings and amulets you should have 300 strength by LVL 11 and you should be well over 1000 DPS with one of those items from Legendary Hell..

Its pretty fun running through egypt on normal with 2 players having that much damage..

It catches up to you by legendary though.. Even my 12000 DPS character has a hard time with the Hydra guy and the Manticore as well as Cerberus... The actual end of game bosses are useless though..

Best game ever..

I'm playing this for the first time, not worrying too much about my gear but I'm enjoying the game very much

Though I have two questions:

1. Is there a way to stash my stuff somewhere or do I only have my bag's slots available?

2. Is it impossible to apply enhancements to certain pieces of gear? (I think their names were blue or green).

Barfo, you can download TQvault if you want an easy way to store your items across multiple characters. Myself, I dont use it as I have created alot of characters just for storage.. For example I have characters named "Artifacts","Rings","Amulets","Swords".. etc... And when I want one of there respectively named items I just put it in the transfer bag (not storage) and load up my character and suit him up.

For your second question, You cant apply essences/embodiments/incarnations on blue or purple items.. The green items are usually my favorite items to use as you can enhance them so much beyond there stock settings.. The best enhancements in the game are "Valor of Achilles" for weapons and "Hercules Might" for armor. I usually put "raptor teeth" on my amulets and "Vile Ichor" on my rings.

If he has the Immortal Throne expansion pack, then he should be able to use the caravan guy in town. Barfo, if you do have the expansion pack, be sure to run the Immortal Throne executable and never run the vanilla game's executable.

I didn't know green items could be enhanced. I thought it was only yellow. Looks like I've got some more enhancements to do

Wow, its been so long I forgot the original came without the Caravan Trader... Yah, I trade between "characters named by items" using the Caravan. Makes it easier than the TQvault, with the added bonus that its not a mod (cheat)..

I'm currently working on a great build focusing on all poison damage with some dream magical mumbo jumbo. Rogue/Dream is a great combo for stinging guys then jumping out.

For bosses its great to setup a 3 way bolt-trap then dance around occasionally using the dream invisibility to jump in and sting them and jump out..

Hes currently in legendary (level 48) with 3 deaths..

I have killed Hades 5 times already but still haven't gotten the Turtle Key drop (I am assuming it should be in the Purplish ball).

Import your character(s) into IT and it will continue from the last save point. You really want to do this before you hit the Titan. Your character will transfer over with everything intact.

Do you mean before going to Egypt? I did that 3 days ago...what will installing the expansion exactly do to my character?

Installing the expansion? I don't think it does ANYTHING to the character since you can still run it through TQ. From what I have seen importing it into IT just lets you play the character as it is in IT.

I've never had that problem, but I'm only on Act 2 my first time through. The problem I do have is long load times. I like to just pause the game, minimize it, and hibernate my computer (especially nice when I've summoned higher-level wolves with a shrine of mastery). After doing this, it seems that the load times greatly increase between different areas.
