For everyone that's always wanted to put their console to work, now's your chance. Dnet has released the [mips/PS2] client for Linux, which is a version of the .472b client built for PS2 Linux. In JT's post, he only mentions RC5, so I don't know if it supports OGR or not(or even if it does RC5 quickly), but there's at least partial functionality availible. A PS2 Linux kit is required, so not very many peope can use it yet, but it is out there. If you're one of the lucky few with a PS2 and a kit, give it a shot, we'd love to hear what you think.

Now if we could just get a port of the RC5 client to run on the C=64, we could add hundreds maybe even thousands more machines! :Q

Baldy, I think they're $100, but I'm not sure.

Oh, and for you C64 fans, the CPU used wasn't full 32bit, correct? If that's the case, it wouldn't be able to run RC5 anyways, you need a 32bit or greater CPU.

PS2 Linux Kits are $200. Sony sells them on Playstation.com. If they ever release a SETI client, I'll go buy a PS2 and the linux kit.

No problem - the C=64 was an 8-bit machine right? We'll just wire four of 'em together in parallel and we're golden! :Q

Theres a fan at the back of the PS2.

From what I can tell, GTA3 absolutely canes the machine as in places the FPS is appalling. Assuming that games such as GTA3 run the machine at almost 100% load full time anyway I see no problem, however a machine isnt gaming 24/7, maybe max 2 hours at a time (for me, anyway) so there is that issue...

Interesting discussion.

specs for ps2:

Sony PlayStation2
The Specs:

System RAM: 32MB Direct RDRAM
Graphics: 148Mhz Graphics Synthsizer

Interesting, wonder if the 128bit cpu makes it faster than a PII300?

from what i read coding for v units are hard to do! if you notice almost all games made for the ps2 only use the basic cpu cause of this! thats why they suck cause fistly the gfx of there gpu or it's not even that really sucks! but some games like jack and daxter use at least one of thoes v units and jack and daxter is not super made for the v unitis either...look up that game i have it my self got some very nice speed as well as gfx! can't wait to see what these ppl can do when they get all thoes units down pack eh!
