I know that Best Buy will not let anyone reserve a Playstation. What other places won't? I'm trying to get one through waiting in line (however slim a chance it might be). Heck, I'll even camp outside if I have to.

Let's get a list going for Thursday:

Yes:
Best Buy
Walmart
Circuit City
Toys 'R' Us
Sears
Kmart
Target

No:
EB
Babbages

Maybe:

Online:
E*** (pricey)

Hey mods, leave one of these threads open so all the PS2 questions can go in one.

Will KMart or Walmart have these tomorrow at midnight or early morning on the 26?
Dont feel like driving to circuit city/best buy...

I would not suggest 24-hour Walmart. I called one and they said they're only getting 26 units. Can you imagine the mayhem? I don't want to wait in line for 2+ hours, only to have some jerk cut in front of me and take my PS2 away.
I wonder how many acts of violence will be related to unsuccessful PS2 buyers? BestBuy is your best shot, I think. Oh yeah ... they're doing it by lottery. Check out techbargains for the story (since when has techbargains been a banned word. I'd hate to associate techbargains w/ eGay and other forbidden words).

Evidentally some of the 24 hour stores will start selling them at midnight, but they expect lines starting at about 5pm..... I am going to get a couple through my "connection", but is it really worth all of this hassle?? I can't even decide if I want to get one for myself.....

It's worth reselling all right. $500 on eGay? Wow...if only I didn't have to worry about college. Actually, who knows, maybe i'll buy one. Or two. Or three. Heh, i'd love to get three so that I could eGay two and get mine literally for free.

What about Target? ... Target opens at 8am too ... Anyone think Target is a better bet than Best Buy? ...

From what I have heard, Best Buy is getting the biggest allocation, so they are probably your best bet. From what I have heard ALL stores are going to have lines, so I don't know if it really matters. I talked to some employees at Best Buy who are even camping out the night before. Seems kind of ridiculous to me, but hey.....

Well, I'll probably be waiting in front of Sony's Metreon in SF. If anyone else is going to be there, I'm the Asian guy with green (yes, GREEN) hair.

10 of my roommate's (crazy) gaming group friends will start camping outside the Best Buy at San Mateo (Bay Area) at noon tomorrow. Im sure there are plenty of freaks like that that will make it impossible to get systems if you go at 8am.

I'm just gonna enjoy my DC games, and when prices drop when XBox comes out, I'll pick up the PS2.

no offense intended, but does the urge to have the ps2 as soon as it comes out warrant the need for such extreme measures as camping out at the store at 5pm for the midnight sale?

help me understand this, wouldnt it be easier to just wait a week or two or a month later to get it? now before you start flaming, this was not intended to insult or negatively impact anyone. just a genuine concern/question over such hardcore tactics to get something that will be easily gotten if one just waits a little longer.....

Spindler this isnta flame whatsoever But it wont be any easier to get it later actually prolly the opposite cause they are shipping 500,000 out on release and after that only 100,000 A MONTH!! Oy.... But anyway Im gettin mine that was reserved in january hehehe. And I might get another one to sell on EGAY

The best bet for a ps2 is probly a PX/BX if any of you have military friends or family, try that route. Personally, I'll stick w/ my playstation, and computer gaming junk.

Montegomery Wards (keep it on the d/l ). There's one out in the cuts in Richmond, don't think there will be too many people trying to get one there.

Metreon will probably have more than any place else, but on the other hand, there will be a huge amount of people there.

This has been stated before...but...why is their a shortage of these? Sony released these in japan last spring and the US is only getting 500,000? Man, they had plenty of time to start rollin' the EE chips out of their fabs and meet demand, kinda reminds of me of what another company did how long ago now?

Hey, I plan on picking one up down the road when the 2nd gen games come out, good luck to all who suit up this Thurs or (Wed night).

Undoubtedly, I am in support of playstation 2, but reading a news article a few days ago in the Los Angeles Times, software developers such as SquareSoft as well as all of the other leading game creators are worried about the outcome of this PSX craze. In the article, it mentions that as of today, since the psx2 was release in March in Japan, there has not yet been one outstanding "big name" video game made for the machine, and there hasn't been much support from third party developers, due to the fact that Sony's technology in the PSX2 is a little bit advanced, and the price tag of $70/per game is a little hefty for us to pay. And many others mentioned that the only reason why they pre ordered the PSX2 was solely for the advantage of having a DVD Player under $300 since when they started selling preorders of PSX2s, DVD players then were just breaking the $300 barrier.

Personally I don't mind waiting until March to get it, by then there would be enough titles to determine which system will be better, and more coverage of the XBox and Nintendo's and Sega's machines will be around.

On a side note, I read this somewhere but I forgot exactly where, but some people have even thought about renting the machine from Blockbuster Video (which requires a $300 deposit), and not returning it. That's a pretty HOT deal to me if you don't mind not having the box and just the system.. like OEM packaged.

I was in Hong Kong when they were first shipped, and the same thing happened. Demand exceeded supply, and people are selling it for 2 to 3 times the price. However, within like a month, the craze died down and you get it at cost.
I would definitely wait until Sony decided to have a steady supply, and I do suspect that they are creating this fiasco. No reason to even wait in line.
