I'm just wondering if anybody can help me out with a question about the PS2.
Can anyone please tell me what the difference is between a PS2 model # 39001 and a newer PS2? I understand that PS2 # 39001 is an older model, and I am just wondering how this older model compares to the newer PS2's. What is the difference. I don't know too much about these things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much !! I hope everyone has a terrific day.

The difference is in the PCB layouts and chips they use in the systems. As they can make chips smaller and improve the manufacturing process they'll change the model number. All PS2's play the exact same way though, at the same speed, so don't worry about it.

I think some models are easier to mod too, I believe the older they are the better if you're putting in a mod chip but I could be wrong.

I beleive the older PS2's have two more screws on the bottom than the newer ones do. (Old ones have 8, news ones have six, I think)

Also, the wire covering for the reset button wires on the new PS2's are coated in platinum, while older PS2 reset button wires are only coated in plastic.

The latest model is 5000x

39001 was a version 7. The latest ones are version 9.

These are the enhancements:
* Ability to play DVD-R, RW, +R, and +RW.
* Ability to turn off the PS2 from the new remote control
* Ability to close the disc try from the new remote control
* DVD Progressive Scan playback
* IR Remote Control receiver is built into the unit
* Fan is 30% less noisy
* IEEE 1394 port has been taken out
* 200g lighter in weight than the SCPH-39000 and 400g lighter in weight than the SCPH-10000

wow.. those are some really useful features. Progressive scan? Ability to play DVD-R,etc, and lighter too.
