Playstation 3 press conference today...

As you probably already know, Sony will hold a press conference today at E3 to showcase the playstation 3. I'm on the east coast, so even though it 12:30 here its probably to early in cali. I'll post a link to the story when i get it, but if anyone gets it first, POST!

I don't think MS "stole" the spotlight. I think the leaked images deflated the whole MTV/celebrity release party. And XBOX specs had been trickling in for a while. I think the PS3 will be the big thing for aleast a week

3 cores running at 3.2ghz. Yes.

Nintendo's next console is rumoured to have 4 cores running at 2.5ghz.

Actually, the XBOX 360 demos were running on APPLE G5s. But yes, the final specs have 3 3.2gHz chips.

You mean like staying with cartridges for the N64? Or how about going with the mini-disc for the Gamecube?

Sorry, but Nintendo is just like Sony and MS. Their consoles have their strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, I remember that too. The sad thing is that even after the people fell for the hype last time and found that it didn't deliver, they're falling for it all over again.

Nintendo ON is fake.

XBox 360 does indeed have three 3.2GHz cores, an ATI GPU somewhere between R500 and R600 with 10MB EDRAM, 512MB DDR3, and a "watercooling" (heatpipe) setup.

The PS3 will be probably be just as awesome or more (if not, I expect significant changes between now and release of PS3. Sony has too much pride to come in 2nd to MS in terms of tech/speed/features.)

EDIT: After reading the specs, all I can say is...wow. I knew Sony would have something up their sleeve--I didn't know they had THAT much though!

Where PS3 pwns XBox:

• 2 teraflops! Looks like this generation has the power to last awhile. If Tim Sweeney is being honest, we'll see games taking advantage of it sooner rather than later!

• More RAM, faster, non-unified. 256MB for the CPU and I/O, and if I read that correctly 512MB+256MB for a combined total of 768MB??? Probably not right, but it sounds impressive. *edit* people are already misquoting specs, there's only 256+256 for a total of 512MB RAM

• Dual HDMI!!! I was disappointed that XBox didn't have a direct HDMI output, but Sony has two! Dual screen 32:9 sounds awesome. Sure only the uber rich can afford it now, but imagine upgrading to this in 2-3 years. Who knows, if new widescreen LCD monitors include an HDMI input there might be a Dell deal to take advantage of this! The fact that this capability is included tells you how much processing power the PS3 has. It would be awesome if both outputs are capable of 1080p simultaneously.

• MOTION CAPTURE INPUT!!! If this new EyeToy works as advertised, you could be playing Fight Night Round 3 with your BARE HANDS! Punching into the air and seeing your moves on screen, in real-time, WITHOUT a "Power Glove" is simply awesome!

Final analysis?

XBox will drop first, and it better hope it gets some market traction quickly. If not, PS3 could pwn them if priced equally. And if development is as easy as they say it is...well Sony is already the leader in terms of titles, so you know what to expect.

ok i should have worded my post better. not in terms of picking format, but they were the ones who came out with

vboy (ok sucked)
nds touch screen/ dual screen
n64 analog sticks / rumble pack
gamecube / gameboy connectivity (ok sucked too)

what original ideas have MS and sony come out with? except for their online connectivity, which is basically "stolen" from the pc gaming scene, nothing really.

PSP supply is under demand.
NDS is selling, but correct me if i;m wrong but the GBA release had much better reaction beyond its initial launch, no?

you forgot to add the 4 ports on a console.

you are correct that nintendo usually comes up with the new innovative ideas, however they tend to sit 50/50 as to whether they were a success or not.

Sony - Dual Analogs, they popularized CD-based console gaming after many failed attempts

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match but every console brings something different to the table. I just don't buy Nintendo being the only one with 'great' ideas.

you are wrong. there is no shortage of psp's. that was *right* at launch.

yes the gba had a better reaction but you have to remember that nds is some supposed 'third pillar' and that a new gb proper is coming. just nobody knows when.

i can say xbox hdd and live! service is just taking a page from pc gaming, and dual analog is just adding another stick to the analog stick from nintendo (and how many games use that second stick as a crucial control stick? Rise to honor? Ape escape? Death by Degrees? not a lot if you ask me)

im not into fanboy pissing matches either. i own all 3 systems now - GC, XBOX And PS2. its just my opinion that i think nintendo always have ideas, not always great ones, but definitely creative and innovative. while the other companies simply "build on" other ideas.
