the design of the ps3 console is good, though nowhere near superb. the thing is sleek, round and futuristic. The silver colored console just looks darn good and the black is a close second. i mean when we all first saw the ps2 console, some of us thought it looked bulky and dull. looked at what success the ps2 turned out to be. and the xbox360 isn't exactly going to win beauty contests either.

i have a few worries over the controller however. the thing looks like a elongated boomerang. i guess it really doesn't matter how it looks. it all comes down to how it feels and works.

and from what ive seen so far on the E3/05 coverage, XBOX 360 is being blown away by sony as well.

but in the end, its about the games.so we'll see.

Reports from Japan have the PS3 around $500, supposedly citing some sources close to Sony. I'd say this is their target right now if they are indeed going BluRay, 1080p, etc.

They probably want to take the consumers for everything they're worth, but there are limits...I honestly don't think (most) people will pay $500 for a gaming console, even if it does have other features, and Sony would be shooting themselves in the foot to price it anywhere near that high. $300 or maybe $350 as has been speculated for the Xbox 360 is more reasonable.

Honestly, $300 or $350 is reasonable for the 360. The PS3 will not fall in there. No way. The BluRay aspect is really going to spike the price. It's just not cheap and they can only loose so much. It's actually Sony execs that have been talking about the $500 price range (well, $460ish in Japan, and a little more the US like the PSP).

Can you imagine the bundles retails will force upon customers? I'm not saying you have to buy a bundle, but many places seem to only go with the bundle route. EB might very well have a $700 and $800 bundle for the PS3, some crap accessories, and a couple games. Wow.

I'm not saying it won't necessarily be worth the money if they do end up including everything they say they will in the PS3, but game consoles at launch are already expensive as it is...I don't know how much higher they can go and maintain good sales numbers.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were expensive bundles like that either. Almost eliminates the cost advantages that consoles have over PC's.

you are wrong. there is no shortage of psp's. that was *right* at launch.

yes the gba had a better reaction but you have to remember that nds is some supposed 'third pillar' and that a new gb proper is coming. just nobody knows when.

They're pretty much banking on PS3 driving BluRay to be the standard at this point.

Steve Ballmer from MS had an interesting interview with Engadget.com where he basically says MS is not committed to HD-DVD or BluRay at this point but that they do want HD DVD for the 360.
