but I'd like to know more. I hope Tom's Hardware puts something out like they did with the XBOX360. Until then, anyone have anything like it?

I think its the opposite. xbox may have stolen the spotlight from the casual gamers...u know..the ones that actually WATCH MTV but other then that no. Sony's confrence to me was the only good one. I am not saying that the xbox is going to suck horrible but by far the sony confrence had the most info, visuals, direction. The xbox confrence was very blury to me...I mean..for the first like 30 mins of it all they talked about was live which is already a feature of the xbox 1. THey talked a lot about community with girls that dont ever want to play the damn thing..and when they finally got to the end with the games nothing was that amazing besidse that one game that looked like Unreal. On the other hand..the sony confrence came out swining...gave ALL of the specs, comparing it, telling us what it could do, what it coudl play on..going VERY indepth through the new graphic capabilities and then showed some amazing game demos.

and I think we can all say that nintendo did the worst. While i know its their way to keep really quite about everythintg....that was a little too quiet.

Sony was able to convince the media they have the better product. It may not be true, but via pre-renders and fuzzy specs they got the message out that the PS3 is way more advanced than the 360. Microsoft using development builds to demo their games did not help their case. In the end result is the media is almost unanimously claiming the PS3 is a powerhouse and the 360 is not as impressive. If Sony sold the media, they in turn sold the consumers. That's how marketing works. That's how they killed the DC, they are using the same playbook to undermine the 360. Will it work? Who knows?

Sony did more than convince the media. They've gotten the media to get down on their knees and service the PS3 orally.

You'd think the media would have remembered the pre-PS2 E3 hype of Sony using bogus pre-renders and cut scenes. Obviously, they haven't.

I don't think it will work this time though as MS has better publisher support and (obviously) better finances than Sega did when they released the Dreamcast. It sounds like the 360 may be recovering from the disappointing press conferences with their game demos on the E3 floor (my take on reading around the web).

I agree. Even if MS was in twice as bad shape as Sega was they would keep it afloat for the long run. Best Sony can hope to do is spread enough fud to keep 360 aunch sales down and keep MS from eating PS3 sales next gen. I don't think MS will have much trouble getting close to 50% of the market in the US next gen. The big question is Europe and Japan.

Mark my words, MS with almost a year headstart in North America and comparable specs to the PS3 will sell most units in North America. Again, both MS and Sony's "We can do X Teraflops" claims are bogus.

Case in point, IBM claims that their 32-way, dual-core Power5 chip gives 217 Gflops @ 1.9GHz. This is about 1.78 flops/cycle for each core, a reasonable number considering the Power5's architecture. Now compare this to the Cell, which Sony claims can produce 218 Gflops from 7 SPE cores @ 3.2 GHz. So again doing a little math, we obtain 9.7 flops/cycle for each core. This basically implies that each SPE core is about 5.5 times more efficient than a Power5 core that is much more sophisticated in terms of architecture (remember the Cell concept is to include a bunch of simple cores rather than a few complex ones). Based on this, I'm sure that the RSX's performance claims are equally overblown. Who the heck mixes the GPU and CPU performance anyhow, they're completely separate and have no overlap

AFAIK, MS hasn't actually distributed any specifics but I've heard a 1 Tflop performance thrown around for the total system, and I'm sure that's also grossly overstated. In short the perf numbers being thrown around mean absolutely nothing and are just the result of an e-pissing contest between MS and Sony.

You forget that dreamcast came out first and by far did not win the race. True i think both ms and sony are saying things that are above their capabilites but if any game comes close to the demos that ps3 had they will do fine. I think the biggest thing is the past of the systems. Nintendo is known for kid games...so natrually parents will buy their little kids these systems. Now in the last round a lot of people that own a xbox arnt happy..they didnt get the great games tehy were promised and its not the awesome system that it was suppose to be. I am not saying that everyone hates xbox but i know a few people that share my point of view. Meanwhile there are a lot more people that own PS2s and are very happy with their system. I would think that a lot of those people would wait to see what their favorite system had before they jump onto the xbox bandwagon.

Could we stop with the Dreamcast comparisons? Please. The Dreamcast and the 360 just aren't at the same level.

The Dreamcast had poor publisher support (no EA games for example) and Sega was in horrible shape financially (so bad that they couldn't afford commercials after the initial release ad blitz). Microsoft and the 360 will suffer from none of this.

I hope that all three consoles are able to do well. Having three consoles on the market is good for the gamers/consumers.

don't count nintendo out. the pics of the revolution are looking sweet and let's not forget they have the legend of zelda franchise. the legend of zelda ocarina of time remains for me the best game i ever played.

Everyone seems to be saying "Ya Blu-ray sucks" But what you are not thinking of is when you can fit MetalGear solid 1-4 on 1 CD so you don't ever have to swap out CD's! GTA 3 - GTA:San Andreas You are thinking of single games not multiple on 1 blu-ray disc

beyond compliations blu ray serves no real purpose.

only a handful of xbox and ps2 games now require the use of a dual layer dvd. a majority of games are on single layered dvds and don't even fill it too the max.

most of the 27 gigs on a bluray disc will go to waste. but I"m sure FF12 or whatever the next one is and MSG 4 will fill it up uwith endless cut scenes.

but if sony has some way to let me create my own compliations of games maybe it would be interesting but I doubt that'll happen.

we'll just wait and see what happens I already have my eyes on a xbox 360 for the media center xtender option with HD content.
