Are you talking about the console or the presentation?

MS still has their E3 presentation coming up.

Apparently, there will be a "PlayStation P2P Online Service", although just how this works is unclear as of right now.

Hopefully much better than the current PS2 online gaming service....
Hopefully free.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them developing a system like Microsoft's next-gen XBOX Live service. Basic support for free, but premium features above that. It's all about competition, and if Sony didn't catch what MS was doing and tried to emulate the old pay-to-play Live, then they've taken a step back.

The presentation. The best way to keep the hype up is to withhold info for as long as possible. MS just kind of threw everything out there. While not necessarily a bad thing, with the XBOX 360, everyone kind of saw everything on the internet before the big MTV showing. It was anti-climatic. This, however, you don't know ANYTHING about the PS3, and you know the info is slowly trickling in.

We don't know backwards compatibility, what games will be out, launch date, etc. We've also only seem brief glimpses into the actual in game screenshots and whatnot.

Just two different forms of marketing trying to lead up to the same effect. I thought the Xbox360 marketing with ourcolony.net and the other leaks was effective as it had people constantly talking about it.

Interesting, but I don't know if ultimately this will be enough to topple the one year headstart MS will have on them.

For one thing, I don't understand the need for 128-bit color precision, current games only use 32-bits, what the hell could they possibly need 128-bits for apart from marketing. Secondly, for all the people raving that this is much better than MS' console, well this was pretty much expected given the time difference between the two consoles. I'm more curious as to how easy/difficult it will be to code for these next-gen consoles, I think that this will ultimately determine what the performance is like on them especially given how notoriously difficult it was to code for the PS2's Emotion Engine. I'm also wondering what the deal is with the 6 threads for MS and 7 SPEs for Sony, I think it will be a pain in the ass to keep these synchronised to fully utilize the power of either console.

Either way, we'll see how it unfolds but I don't see this as being so much better than MS' console that they can get away being a behind.

Yep. Plus, they appealed/presented it to a much wider audience to begin with. Not a bunch of horny internet geeks jacking off to ps3pwnzall.com blog updates.

Yep. This generation is going to be all about the middle-ware. PS2 was a pain in the arse to develop for because Sony had poor middleware. MS is really pushing XNA for the Xbox360 so we'll see which comes out on top.
