Just an update for those wondering. I have not gotten my shipping confirmation yet. I will email them tommorrow and ask for an update. If I am told I have to wait weeks then I will cancel. If I am told 72 hours I will wait and see. If I am delayed again after 72 hours I will cancel.

Well the website is now gone. Looks like it was a hell of a scam. Going to have to close my CC account and file a chargeback claim. Let's keep the gleeful I told you so's at my expense to a minimum. Plenty of people besides me thought it looked legit. First time I got scammed online like that. I do not have any additional charges on my CC at this time beyond the $494.95.

Credit card companies really need a way of stopping junk like this, and yes, I mean you abusing your credit card. Seriously, a PS3 won't even be available to buy for $600 for months and you expected to get one before Christmas for $500. Even if the credit card company gets their money back, they still spent resources getting it back. If you haven't learned by now that scam websites look professional, then you deserve a few "I told you so's." Let me ask you this. Would you have do the same thing over again if you didn't have fraud protection?

I mean really, did you honestly find it reasonable that someone would sell the hottest item of the shopping season for $100 under retail when you can easily get $400-500 more for it on ebay? Does it make sense to you that someone would be willing to take a $400 loss to get "information about buyer behavior"? What information did they get, exactly, that you want to buy a PS3? Anyone who fell for this deserves all of the ridicule we can throw at them IMO.

What I don't understand is why they don't prosecute these people, there's very little chance of anything happening to them, even if they do end up getting to keep some of their scam money.

I tried very hard to get some action on someone who tried to scam me on Ebay, faking DHL notices and the like. When I spoke to the DHL people I forwarded all info to them and they also asked me to send everything to the FBI internet fraud dept. I never even received a confirmation email.

thats exactly why they have fraud protection. so people feel confident to spend more money online using their CC.

he wasnt abusing it, since he thought it might have been legit. if he KNEW it was a fraud then he woudnt have tried to purchase, purchasing when you KNOW its a fraud is only way to abuse this system. he used the system exactly how it was intended.

its the same thing as insurance. the company has not lost any money for the use of their system. you dont honestly think they put such a system in place without it being completely paid for in some way do you? X-million has been paid in, and $500 will be paid out, WITH the possibility that they get their $500 back as well. that $500 is NOTHING, they are paying people to look into online fraud like this regardless of whether or not anyone uses it. the only possible way they would save any money if noone used the system AT ALL, then they could fire some people.
