Playstation 3 versus XBox 360

So here's the deal. I really want a new console system. I've been playing my Dreamcast too long. With the Fatwallet 20% off deal at Kmart, I could either get a 40GB PS3 with Spiderman for $320 or get an XBox360 Premium with no games for $280.

Alternatively, the holiday Xbox360 Pro Bundle is $349 with Ultimate Alliance and Forza2.

I don't care for online play much. I Just want a good system for racing games and football. Discuss. Thanks.
UPDATE: I called a Kmart yesterday and found the Holiday bundle, but they said that it's a new SKU and won't be for sale in the system until Sunday. I've got the new 20% coupon and I'm going to be the first one in the door tomorrow morning to see if I can snag one. (they only have 2)

I'd go with 360 because of it's larger library of games. It has a few more racing games than the PS3 does I believe.

No.... I went to 3 Kmarts and only 1 even had a 360 in stock. The one that was in stock was the "hardware only" version.

Let me start by stating that I think both systems are great. But if I were to purchase just one now I would go with the 360 because right now there are much better games out for that system.

Thanks. I pretty much want to go with the 360... I'm just bummed because the only one I can get for cheap using the Kmart deal has no games. So...I may hold out and just buy the holiday bundle later on.

360 has more games, and EA's sports are smoother (if just as bugridden) on the 360.

PS3 has blu-ray which is very nice if you have a HDTV. HD-DVD costs an extra $180 for the xbox. Blu-ray has Sony, Pixar, more studios overall while HD-DVD has Transformers, Heroes and Galactica. Netflix carries both blu-ray and HD-DVD.

The 40 GB PS3 only plays PS3 and PS1 games, it plays zero PS2 games.

If you get the 360 be very careful to either get the Forza/MUA bundle or at least one with HDMI port. The older model without HDMI is a ticking bomb that will explode and cripple a family member or beloved pet. Only HDMI can save fluffy.

I may go against the grain here, but I have both systems, so hopefully it will be an unbiased opinon.

I would say to go with the PS3, FOR YOU...the reason is that the xbox does indeed have a better library of games right now, including mass effect, bioshock, halo...but those aren't the games you want.

You want racing and football games. Madden is much better this year on the xbox, so if thats a big deal, definetly go with the xbox.

BUT i firmly believe it will be equal next year.

The PS3 will have gran turismo. It runs much more quietly. I have had 2 xbox's die, and i dont like that. Sure they'll fix the red ring of death, but not the dvd drive issues. The PS3 has blu ray built in.

For most gamers, i'd say the xbox is way better. But for you, with your specific tastes, and the deals currently running, i'd recommend the ps3

If you want it for games, get the 360. If you want it for movies, get the PS3. The Xbox 360 premium holiday bundle comes with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, by the way. Not sure how Gran Turismo 5 will compare to Forza 2, but Forza 2 is really good.

Well one obvious way that Forza 2 compares to GT5 is that you can actually play it now. Something that GT5 cannot boast. I'm a pretty big Gran Turismo fan and I don't have a 360 or PS3. I think I'll 360 bundle this year. That or upgrade the old barton/9800pro system and keep sim racing on on the computer with the better logitech wheel. (better than the MS wheel)
I really resent the decision by MS to make a buck on a cheap piece of hardware, instead of simultaneously allowing support for the more ubiquitous logitech wheels. Having to buy another, crappier wheel is probably what's kept me from buying a 360 and Forza 2 so far, and still might.

personally i'd pick the 360 by a long shot. i have all 3 consoles and xbox360 is by far the best.

I don't have any games for the PS3.

If you want a good console for football and racing go with uh... well x360 has the edge on football, while most football games are multiplatform they all run worse then others on the ps3. for racing ps3 has ridge racer and motorstorm for racing and x360 has forza2 and pgr3-4? also ps3 will have gt5 some day, which might be enough to sway some hardcore racing fans.

It's unfortunate that you can't link to search results at gamerankings.com. But if you go there and search for the top ~50 games on each system and pick out the ones you think you'd like, that'll give you a good idea.

If you search for just racing games, you get:

OK, but he's considering the PS3 and the 360. I'm assuming he wants to play current-gen games. I also didn't consider if any of those games are available on the Wii, because he doesn't want a Wii. So my use of the term "exclusive" was wrong, but in this context it makes no difference to him.

Ridge Racer 6 is exclusive. MotoGP 07 is on PS2 and PC. MotoGP 06 is exclusive. NFS: MW is on just about everything but PS3.

It just depends on what games you want, really. Also, do you want Live or is the PSN enough for you (it's also free). The 360 also has a high chance of failure, though newer models should be better.

That's about all I can see. Do your research and see what games are out and will be coming out for both systems, and then decide which is best for you.

Well are GT or Forza guy :!

I am a forza guy because i play my racing game online but if your not even going to brother with online then go with PS 3 because GT will have a much better single player mode. But is no where as near in current state to compete with Forza online feature because GT devs don't pay any attention its competition.

But if your a dude who plays rpg , fps , fighting game then get a 360 because they contain all those games.

Also don't listen to most of these guys , they only say 360 because its got loads of games and i would recommend 360 if you played much more than Racing game.
