Yeah I'm curious to try out a game like RE7 in VR but there is just so much shit needed to run it. Plus having to wear headphones to game is kinda fucked when I'm used to my home theater.

You still need the camera right? So if you didn't buy the ps4 camera and you just get the headset, will it work the same?

Too many cords and me only using it once in a while was why I didn't get one yet.
I think you'll use it a lot if you have it.

The headset I got did not include the camera, so that's another $60 (you might already have one). The bundles that include a game also include a camera and Move controllers.

I'm with you on that one. I like using a real home theater.

I tried the PS VR out at a Best Buy when they were demoing it and it felt laggy. Like I watched people move their head really slow when they played with it and not in a natural way for a fast game. You would normally be turning quickly and aiming fast. So when I got up to try it I moved my head quickly as if I was scanning for enemies or whatever and the display didn't keep up with me and that was very jarring. Now maybe the games that end up on VR won't be fast paced enough for this to matter, I don't know. It also doesn't help that there are games coming with 4k resolution(or a method of scaling) and HDR lighting that makes it harder to move away from using my TV.

So I'm curious if anyone here has PSVR and if so their opinion on it.

I tried VR today for the first time ever when I was in the mall and saw them demo'ing it at the Microsoft Store. it was a Samsung version of VR but it was the MS stuff and not like the Occulus or Vive. And I must say, it was really fucking cool. And it got me interested in VR. I played this like 7 minute demo that first went on this "hello mars" thing where you're in a space ship traveling to mars, and it was just awesome to look around in the cockpit and see the astronauts right next to me and stuff. The thing I guess I didn't realize is just how much depth it has. I didn't really realize it was 3D so that alone was like holy shit! And when it showed some angles of the ship from outside traveling really fast, I definitely felt my equilibrium messing with me and I can definitely see how people get dizzy.

Then I tried this Halo Recruit thing where you basically target shoot, but my time ran out before I got to actually fire. I just got to see them introducing the different Halo enemies but even that was cool as they were right infront of me and the depth was just incredible. I was also really impressed with how responsive the controllers were, and it was cool in Halo to look down and see my virtual hands, and they moved basically as soon as I did stuff on the controllers.

So I'm now somewhat curious to see how the PSVR is. I don't have a PC capable of running any kind of VR and don't really plan on doing it either. The one thing that seems to maybe be a pain in the ass with PSVR is having to setup the cables and cameras. I don't know logistically how I'd do it in my home theater. The thing that was cool about the one at the MS store is EVERYTHING was just on the headset. You didn't need external sensors and it had headphones built in. All you have to do is plug it into the laptop basically.

Are there any stores that demo PSVR?

I haven't been to a single store of any kind with any sort of VR demo units, besides Best Buy that had Samsung "phone" VR. But if you're interested in PSVR, there are reportedly some very good deals on it this Black Friday. $200 at some places.

I actually saw that there is a PSVR experience thing going on right now at some Best Buy's and Gamestops. I think it's due to the revised PSVR unit that is coming out very soon. Best Buy near me will have it at 11:30am tomorrow morning so I'm going to go check it out.

Where did you hear about the $200 price? No way that could be for a bundle though, probably just the head unit alone. The head unit, camera, and 2 controller bundles are $450 regular price. Unless it's just them trying to clear our the old version for cheaper.

Thanks for that. I wish that Skyrim bundle was with RE7 instead. Heard that game is great in VR. I don't really care for Skyrim in general. Never liked those games.

But I still need to try it out and see if I like it first. I feel like I'm already convincing myself that I want it lol.

What kind of PS4 do you have? It will work on any, but from what I hear you really want a PS4 Pro to get the most out of PSVR.

So I tried PSVR out earlier. There was like no one in BB so I played a few demos in a row. I first tried the Row game or some shit, it was this shooter. That was my first impression with PSVR and I thought it was really lame. You were basically stationary and shot these robot characters, and could change where you were looking with the analog on the gun controller, but overall was very lame.

I then tried the VR demo thing that was like a video basically. it was some underwater thing in a cage, like cage diving, and that experience was actually very fucking cool. Towards the end when the shark comes in, it was really damn cool and I'd love to see my wife doing that. She would be scared shitless. The depth and what not was great, made me want to reach out and grab the shark. I do wish I had hands in the game and could see them, as it would have kept me in it even more, but it was overall really fucking cool.

Then the last demo I did was the Moss game where you are the little mouse. And damn, that was a neat little game. It was just a puzzle game that used the VR more as a really neat tool. The small environments were really cool and the way you grabbed stuff to move it was really cool.

Overall I would say it's just okay though. The resolution was noticeably lower than the stuff I did yesterday. I could literally see the pixels and at least with the first demo, the AA was really bad. The aliasing took me out of the game big time and just bothered me. I also noticed that the goggles didn't completely cover my eyes, and I could see my shirt on the bottom right of the screen as it just didn't cover my face. I also noticed that it wasn't focused on my first demo. I am wondering if that is just some configuration though and if I had it myself I could fix this. I also am not sure about needing my own headphones for this. I have ear buds but nothing crazy good that could immerse me I don't think.

I am also not sure about it working logistically with my setup. I talked to the guy a bit and he wasn't sure about the extension cables and what not. I'm going to do some research on AVS about PSVR with projector setups and see what people come up with. I think for $350 (the black friday deals) I would probably get one if I could use it with my current setup. I actually enjoy the games like Moss rather than "normal" PS4 games with VR tacked on. But I just need to do more research about those types of games as well to see if there are enough of them.

It is unfortunate you don't have a gaming PC as I suspect an Occulus Rift bundle for $350 is a much better value. Even more so than the "official" VR experiences are the home brew fan projects that use VR that you can download, like being able to explore all the decks of the Enterprise D in VR for example. With PSVR you're locked in to solely what gets released through licensed channels.

I think I'm going to wait until v2 comes out and buy one as soon as it's out. It sucks Sony hasn't said when it's going to be released. Maybe I'll buy it during the BF deals and keep it sealed, then exchange it when the new ones come out if it's like a month out or less.

EDIT:

Actually, the Skyrim bundle does indeed look like it is the new version according to the official PS blog here:

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/11/06/introducing-the-playstation-vr-skyrim-vr-bundle/

This bundle will come with the updated PS VR system featuring revised design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset, and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. The updated PS VR system also comes with a new Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit between the TV and the PS4.

It's also worth mentioning that PlayStation Plus includes two VR games this month. The first is a normal game that is VR capable, and the second is that Until Dawn VR game.

As for the unit itself, I have the same problem as you. My TV is too far from my entertainment center for the cable to reach properly, and I wouldn't want a cable draping across the wall anyway. It has been awhile since I looked, but I recall longer PS Camera connections being harder to do than the Kinect due to the PS Camera using a proprietary plug. Fortunately, Microsoft stopped using one with the Xbox One S, so you can use an active USB 3 cable with the Windows adapter on the other side to connect to the Kinect itself.

If I were to get one, I'd want one with the new box to avoid the HDR hassles, but I also don't want the package deal since I already own the camera and I can get used Move controllers on the cheap. I also own a Vive, so I'm not sure if there's a point beyond having some new toy to play with.

I prefer using my occulus so the ps vr didn't do anything for me because I mainly do test flights using VR and it's more comfortable using the hardware on my PC. That's all I really use it for and it's enough to warrant getting my money's worth. I'll definitely upgrade to occulus 2.0 when that is out. I also heard the vive may get a wireless attachment freeing you from wires but I'm concerned about latency with that. I would hope occulus would also do something like that but the price of that wireless attachment is about the same price as the occulus with touch controllers, so maybe not worth it in the end.

There are some cool VR games like resident evil which was really cool on the PS4. But way too intense as the game itself freaked me out. I still have to finish it one day.

I'd hate to have wires running all over my living room too.

With the free PS+ games, are those games you can download and they are yours to keep forever? Or are they only playable during the free month? Or do they "expire" if you let your PS+ lapse? Like can I just download that Until Dawn VR game now and have it forever? That is one of the games that people said is pretty awesome.

With how I plan on having it setup, there won't be any wires at all running around as it'll just be in my a/v closet when I'm not using it, and when I use it, i'll either stand outside of it or just put a foldout chair back there to sit on. Or maybe get an office chair to just keep around.

You keep them in your library and can play them until your PSN+ membership expires. They aren't like the XBL Gold games that they give forever even if you aren't a member any longer.

Really some of the best VR stuff I've seen aren't even games like was mentioned above. It's stuff other than games that seem to have the most potential to me.

What about if your PSN+ lapses but you resub? Do you re-gain access to the free games you got or are they gone forever?

They are always in your library. You regain the license for them when your membership renews.

Those of you who have used VR extensively, do you recommend over the ear cones instead of the included ear buds? Does it increase the immersion noticabely and worth it? What kinda $$ would I be looking to spend to get a decent set of cones? I see there are quite a few Turtle Beach headphones on sale over BF but headphones is one area I have not a clue about as far as what is good and what isn't, or how much money it'll cost to get a decent set.

I like the speakers they have with the occulus. They are pretty comfy and they slightly just rest on top of your ears so you can still get some air.

I would say it depends on your budget like any other audio gear. My sennheiser setup was about $400 all together. I got a PC360 headset and use an Astro mixamp for them which lets me use positional audio through them from any console with optical output. You might be happy with the turtle beach sets or something similar though. It’s too bad there’s no place to physically try them because they will all sound different. Not to mention the comfort level.

Yeah no chance I would spend $400 on headphones. I like good quality audio myself as I have a nice HT with great sound, but I can't really justify that kinda coin for something I'd literally only use for PSVR.

Would spending like $50 - $100 even be "worth" it for some cones? Like are they even decent in that price range?
