Hey Guys,
Starting yesterday the monitor on my laptop (IBM Lenovo T46) has been turning off after about 30 seconds of operation. Essentially what happens is the computer boots up fine, gets to the windows login screen (or thereabouts...sometimes it happens while windows is just loading), and then the screen goes black. Everything seems to still be fine with the computer (I tried logging in after the screen goes back and hear the windows login sound, so it seems ok), just the monitor is black. This even happens if I press F8 to get to the safe mode selection screen...if i just leave that screen up for about 15-20 seconds the screen will go black also.
Just an fyi, the hinge on my laptop broke about 7 months ago and I have been sorta holding the monitor up myself, so there may have been some strain on the connector...however this really does not seem to be a contact problem as wiggling the wires around seems to have absolutely no effect and the pattern is relatively consistent.
I greatly appreciate any help you can give me on this. Also, if I cannot fix this myself (which I doubt), where do you recommend I go with this? i.e., who will rip me off more, IBM repair services, one of those small tech shops, etc. I currently live in Manhattan so if you can recommend something in the area that would be great.
Again thanks for any assistance.
