Got Epox 8K7A+ with XP1800 and Crucial PC2100 512Mb, also IBM 60GXP 41Gb.

They seem a bit low. Running Windows XP and have not overclocked yet.

CPU Bench
Dhrystone = 4286
Whetstone = 2103

CPU Multimedia
Integer SSE = 8541
Floating Point SSE = 9796

Hard Disk
Drive Index = 20496

Memory
Intel = 735Mb/s
Float = 800Mb/s

I have got the latest BIOS but not sure how to check SSE is loaded for the processor. I am using Rounded cables all round, maybe that slows it down.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I got 741/893 for my ram scores. I have a KT266A running at 140 MHz FSB, though.

Temperature is now around 37c as I increased the voltage and gradually going to overclock.
I will post my results.

What is a good utility apart from Sandra that will stress the PC to make sure it is stable when overclocking?

I have tested using 134FSB, 136FSB and 138FSB. Every score has increased apart from Hard disk scores.

134FSB = 20700
136FSB = 20601
138FSB = 19928

That doesn't make sense to me. Is it because I am using an IBM 60GXP???

3dmark2000 or 2001 or go make some MP3s of DivX movies--that will kick its ass =)

i hear prime99 is good too, but i have never used it. i usually put my processor through sandra memory and cpu tests, then run 3dmark2000 and 2001, then run the burn-in wizard in sandra for a few hours. but the real test is to make a DivX movie from DVD.

cheers yodayoda will try that.

Don't know why my HD scores are getting lower. Using IBM 60GXP and comparing scores in Sandra a standard UDMA 100 HD is better.

HD scores are not getting any better.
Tried moving off the RAID controller and onto standard IDE but no difference.
Tried using normal cables instead of rounded but still no difference.
If anyone knows there IBM 60GXP Sandra scores can they let me know please

I run a 1600+ oc'ed on a MSI K7T Pro2 RU so you can't compare my results to yours directly, but here's my alu/fpu scores for various ocs:
1400 Mhz (default speed)
Dhrystone ALU 3931
Whetstone FPU 1929

1533 Mhz (10,5x146) a little better than your 1800+, suprises me that high fsb means that much fpu-wise.
Dhrystone ALU 4293
Whetstone FPU 2142

1680 Mhz (10,5x160) the highest alu score I've ever seen, but the fpu is for some reason worse than a 1900+
Dhrystone ALU 4706
Whetstone FPU 2347

The rounded cable has some effect on the harddrive performance, all the reviews I've read say that they perform worse than normal ide-cables.
I have the same hd but Sandra won't let me benchmark as memory benchmarks and drive benchmarks crashes the program, all other benchmarks work fine, so I can't help you.

Cheers for replying

I think my IBM is no good at higher than 133FSB. But even running at 133 scores are too low.
I am at 140FSB at moment and scores look like this:

CPU Bench
Dhrystone = 4499
Whetstone = 2226

CPU Multimedia
Integer SSE = 8979
Floating Point SSE = 10341

Hard disk
Drive Index = 18928

Memory
Intel = 784Mb/s
Float = 863Mb/s

bloody IBM rubbish. I have even noticed a slight more delay in certain things.
If anyone can please help me, or I will get another drive. My scores are nearly as worse as UDMA 66 drive.

Did you defrag the drive before benching? BTW, I have the 60GXP and it scores 26000's and is currently running@146.6FSB super stable. What version of 4in1's are you using, the ones that came with XP? I haven't used XP yet, so is there an option for setting the HDD performance to network server instead of desktop PC, this could help as well, if applicable to XP. I also find that shutting down all the TSRs and doing the benchies right after a boot will improve scores.

I was a little annoyed earlier.
I changed the VCore and DDR jumpers up one notch on my Epox 8K7A board and tried scores again.
This time my HD scored 24063.
MUCH BETTER.
Don't know why its better. I am going to try the IBM fitness utility I have got.

I did defrag before, it is a completely new system. I ran FDISK created 1 partition and loaded XP on.
I have not loaded any 4in1's myself, unless XP installed some??
I heard they decrease speed.

I guess I'll post my scores for the fun of it...

Running on a Asus A7V133 (1007 bios) with a Tbird 1.4Ghz @ 1.5Ghz (10.5 x 143Mhz)
My memory is running at 2-2-2

CPU Bench
Dhrystone = 4115
Whetstone = 2060

CPU Multimedia
Integer SSE = 8251
Floating Point SSE = 9370

Memory
Intel = 667Mb/s
Float = 669Mb/s

I can get my scores higher but would have to run around 1.83Ghz but for some reason my memory scroes fall...

Another thing is that my memory score is higher at 143MHz then at 146MHz......really wierd, then again at 146Mhz Win XP does its nv4_disp loop lockup when I do something as simple as open my computer....

You definitely need to install the 4in1s, they don't decrease speed, in fact they do the opposite. They should increase agp-speed quite a bit, that's why people always ask if 4in1s are installed if others get low performance from their graphics cards. I don't know much about what they exactly do, but from all I know (= have been told) they increase performance.

I don't know about your board, forgot that it was a 761 board, you can get the 4in1s for all-Via boards from Via, but it is only the southbridge on your board that is made by Via, so you'll have to get one for the 761northbridge/via southbridge from Epox. Getting newer Via drivers also won't help your AMD norhtbridge.
I don't know much about XP, haven't got it yet myself, but in all other Windows versions the 4in1s would increase performance. I can't see why this should be different for WinXP.
The thing you heard about 4in1s decreasnig performance was probably because there were some problems with one of the recent version (canøt remember number) from Via but that has been fixed in later versions, at I think there were such a problem.

Millsy,
Running HD bench in the Sisoft is wasting time if you run it a long after the windows operating system has been installed and you installed all the programs and drivers into it. All the stuff get "stuffed" in the HD and when you run HD bench, you will get worse and worse scores. A month from today, you will get even lower score no matter how much you overclock. It is NOT the Hard drive's fault. It is not the IBM 60GXP's fault. Samething applies to all other hard drive brands. The Only best way to run the HD bench with best result is when your system just has been fresh installed and before you install any programs i.e. games, office apps, etc.. Also set your desktop resolution to 640x 480@ 16bit color. You will get the highest score that way. I have done it number of times over the years and it always works that way. I get 24000+ upon fresh install windows @ 640x480x16 VS. 20000 range or lesser at windows with programs and all the drivers installed @ 1024x768x32. This is on a single-drive IBM 60GXP No Raid and Highpoint HPT 370 UDMA100 onboard controller.

woops typo!!!

I have installed pretty much everything and was running Sandra. Must be why HD was not that good. Got to 143FSB and everything seems okay. Going to try Prime95 when I get out of work
