Hi, after lurking around this forum and others I have decided to go with the following build. This will be used for limited gaming, but mostly just web surfing and productivity.

AMD AthlonXP 2100+(1.73GHz) w/266Mhz FSB Box
Epox 8RDA+ Motherboard
ANTEC 1080 PERFORMANCE PLUS CHASSIS 4X5.25IN 6X3.5IN 430W TRUEPOWER GREY
LiteOn 52x24x52 IDE int CD Writer w/Software OEM
MS Wireless Optical Desktop Pro Keyboard & Mouse Combo (Retail)
Samsung 19" 957MB .22(H) 1920x1440 Magic Bright
Kingston HyperX PC-3000 DDR 370Mhz 512M,KHX3000/512
Thermalright SLK-800 /w Smartfan 2

I already have a decent ATI Radeon 7500 Videocard and a a 60GB ATA/100 Maxtor Harddrive.

How is the onboard sound on the Epox ?

Im not to sure if I should get the ANTEC Case, Samsung Monitor, or the Kingston RAM.. Are there better alternatives for these that arent outrageoulsy priced ?

I would get 2 sticks of DDR for dual channel, at least an 80GB w/ 8MB buffer HD, a new vid card maybe a radeon 8500 or 9500 pro, and a 2400+, its a good overclocker and is priced very cheap. Other than that, looks good

i'd get a newer vid card and maybe back the ram down to crucial pc2700. other than that though it looks nice. very nice pick on the monitor.

Are there Throughbred "A's" and "B's" for xp 1700+ and 2100+ or are they only for xp 2400+ and above ?

Toms Hardware Guide had this chart

AMD Thoroughbred "B" 9 Athlon XP 2400+ to XP 3400+



I thought that 1700+ and 2100+ also had A and B versions .. can someone clear this up for me.

1700+ and 2100+ have both revisions... look at the info you copied from tom's... it confirms this.
I'd get a barracuda V for silence... Right now I've got a maxtor 40gig 7200 screaming away inside my otherwise quiet case. sell your old HD. Can't wait for my barracuda V to arrive. I'm also waiting on 2x256 hyperx3000... So I thought they were promising enough to buy, but definitely go with 2x 256mb ram modules.
If you do any gaming, your video card is going to be a bottleneck.

there are T-Bred B versions for the 1700+ and 2100+
