Valid points, Bob.
The mail reason I'm leaning toward am2 over the less expensive 939 is the future upgradability. If I weren't giving my old machine to my brother then I would for sure buy the 939 since I already have 2GB of RAM and HDD and case psu etc.
But since I'm building from the ground up, it only makes sense for me to purchase parts that I can at least move to a future build. (RAM mobo) I have a socket A right now and I think the 754s were out at the time for a bit more money, but I didn't jump. No 64bit upgrade for me.
The RAM is the big motivator right now, if I buy brand new DDR400 now it will be obsolete the next time around.
By the way, will the new dx10 cards require DDR2? Or will they plug in just fine to a 939?
Also, how high are the 939 cpu's gonna go? Can I potentially go with 939 and stay competative with new games in three years?
