On the other hand - and this may be somewhat more serious - would you stay in DC if it were not fun? No stats? No element of competion?
And if you would not stay around, what would happen with the science? Would it get crunched? :Q

I am saying: for some of the most powerfull crunchers the science is important but it also has to be fun. As soon as the fun goes away, the cruncher leaves. We have seen that several times. That is why I stay in this forum - most of the time it is the friendliest, most polite and most accepting forum in the known universe.

Considering I started DC after my wife introduced me to SETI classic, yes, I would probably still be in it. But I definitely wouldn't be having this much fun. And not only is there the community here, but also crunching is something that both me and my wife do together, so it's part of our relationship now as well.
Nothing like having your wife tell you she wants a dual core processor so that she can crunch more. Nothing.

I propose that greed and fun are the driving force in the world - generally. This may be a grim judgment, but look around you, folks ...
I also propose, that in the universe of crunching, fun is the main driving force. That is why I am here. OK, I may add an almost equally strong close second: competitivness. :Q

I concede that the driving forces are money and sex. Just as unfortunate however. That is why we have so much fun in here--we don't have to worry about the worries of the rest of the world, for a little while atleast.
Quick, hide the babes & the hot tub... And we never worry about money for new crunchers, right.

I look around - lurking you know, spying, - and it almost never takes more than 10 minutes to find a flame war, some cursing or fighting ...
It was quite some time ago we had that in our forum...
Please do not take this as an initaitive to start one - OK?
