Yep. I couldn't believe it for a bit, and then I got to work on my little projects. It made last night's 11 hour shift go by like a 30-minute TV show.

I know it is a cheap trick to put one sentence or one line in each post - but that is the basic of nef-fing. :Q

OTOH: Stats are - as a famous author put it - just lies.
Numbers are - even if we want to think different - an other way of representing a truth as we see it. :Q
In this forum and in this thread I am glad to see that we all see the truth in a similar way - and have a lot of fun together.

And - @ FMC - putting a comparison between the "top neffer" and a number of team mates in neffing - that is just hilarious
So many characters, so many spaces, smileys, so many spåelling errors - and all just for fun.

On the other hand - and this may be somewhat more serious - would you stay in DC if it were not fun? No stats? No element of competion?
And if you would not stay around, what would happen with the science? Would it get crunched? :Q

While we are neffing here, the comp is also crunching - for me this one is doing Seti@home (yeah, I got WUs for all of my computers) and WCG. Just between the clicking of the keyboard. :thumbs up;

I am saying: for some of the most powerfull crunchers the science is important but it also has to be fun. As soon as the fun goes away, the cruncher leaves. We have seen that several times. That is why I stay in this forum - most of the time it is the friendliest, most polite and most accepting forum in the known universe.

Well, I was doing the stats, and I was looking at the numbers thinking "man, I've almost got within 10 of peter again", and then I went to the next page. The next thing I know, I'm adding a "=5" to your numbers. :| So yea, I don't think I'll ever be able to catch ya. That's when I noticed the difference between our numbers, and everyone elses. So I had to poke at ya a bit.

I've worked a rather interested method of doing the stats now. I do everything in excel and I have my G15 kb programmed. And I basically click on the row and hit a button, and it adds a "+1" to the formula. Works great, and I can do the stats in 15 minutes, vice 1-2 hours like it used to take. For the serial posters (peter, compudog, etc heheheh), I just type in +5 or whatever.

So far Rudy Toody has the highest "chain" of posts, when he took the crown for th 2,000th post.

EDIT: Nevermind, peter just beat him with the 8 on this page. ROFL.

Considering I started DC after my wife introduced me to SETI classic, yes, I would probably still be in it. But I definitely wouldn't be having this much fun. And not only is there the community here, but also crunching is something that both me and my wife do together, so it's part of our relationship now as well.

Nothing like having your wife tell you she wants a dual core processor so that she can crunch more. Nothing.

I propose that greed and fun are the driving force in the world - generally. This may be a grim judgment, but look around you, folks ...
I also propose, that in the universe of crunching, fun is the main driving force. That is why I am here. OK, I may add an almost equally strong close second: competitivness. :Q

But the competion is for fun too. If someone passes me, we often say: great crunching! Good for science! while we are considering how we could get on top again. In this situation it is important not to be too serious ... because then the fun has left.

Well, yeah, I accept that.
But: your wife is an exception: how many wifes think like that? Most of them put a cap on the monthly/yearly spending on computer stuff!

I concede that the driving forces are money and sex. Just as unfortunate however. That is why we have so much fun in here--we don't have to worry about the worries of the rest of the world, for a little while atleast.

Quick, hide the babes & the hot tub... And we never worry about money for new crunchers, right.

It was quite some time ago we had that in our forum...

Please do not take this as an initaitive to start one - OK?

That is why we have a fort - for the crunchers, babes and hunks, the hot tub, the limon cello, the beer, the motor cycle. Thats why the fort has it's own electrical power plant. and that is why we have horned trout swimming sluggishly in the limon cello moat - who would dare to cross that one?

I was more hoping for info on some Martian forums... But alas, I guess you aren't holding out on us in that way.

But should there be any Martian posters / lurkers / would-be-neffers, feel free to drop by for a  or some limoncello if I have a batch cooked up.
