While I've never had Lone Star, I'd be willing to bet Beer 30 is a worse tasting beer. They sell it at the 99 cent store. That's not a place one goes to buy alcohol, hell I didn't even knew they sold beer until I saw Beer 30 there.

I haven't seen it in decades, but "Beer" was perhaps the worst beer I've ever had.
Youse older folks may remember it...generic beer. SOMETIMES it was ok...but most of the time, it was watered down horse piss.
Hell, it was bad enough that it made Schmidt taste good by comparison.

I never had this because I was FAR too young at the time, but I remember the generic BEER at Ralphs... A white can with BEER in bold blue letters and a single blue ring around the can. Classic!

Red Oval lager at Trader Joes for $3/6 is the closest thing I've ever seen. I bought it for the novelty value and make friends drink it. It still tastes better than Miluakee's Best though.

Drank Lone Star about 40 years ago. Pearl was another "winner" there in Texas.

But as bad as both of those were, neither could touch Rolling Rock from that era.....when poured out, it'd be tinged a green color and tasted like it.

I don't think there's a decent beer brewed south of the Mason-Dixon line. And if there is, it damn sure isn't Lone Star.

That's not true at all. Although I will admit that most of the south's great beers aren't distributed very far.

I didn't think Schmidt was that bad. But of course at the time I:
- was 17 and had little knowledge of good vs. bad beer
- was spending New Years at a party at my friends house about 2 blocks away (walked over)
- Had the choice between Schmidts, 'skunked' Rolling Rock green half-cans, Old Milwaukee (sp), and Black Label
- Discovered the beer had been tossed from the local golf course when they 'cleaned out' their cooler.
- Had to get said beer from a HUGE cardboard box that sat outside in the below freezing temps
- Didn't know any better

The whole thing was quite comical now that I think about it. Just some big cardbox box with a shit-ton of beer cans just tossed in lmao.
ahhhh good times.......good times lol

It's OK to state something like that, as not many of the smaller breweries here in Texas make it out of the state. But your statement is rather ignorant.

Primary micro breweries here:
Real Ale - Blanco, TX (NE of San Antonio)
512 - Austin, TX
Live Oak - Austin, TX
Saint Arnold - Houston, TX
Southern Star - Conroe, TX (N of Houston)
Rahr & Sons - Dallas, TX

Live Oak has one of the best Hefe's in the nation and Southern Star, who brews in cans and tap only, has one of the highest rated stout's.

We also have some good brew pubs!

Shiner is good. I don't know if you've had Saint Arnolds, but they've got some really good seasonals.

They have other good beer, like their Texas Wheat (more of an American Wheat style, don't expect a Hefe or Wit) or Fancy Lawnmower.

I think BEER was rebranded Olympia. I don't remember it being that bad, but pretty bland. We bought a case or two for a camping trip once.

I had a micro brew last night called New Grist Beer (made from sorghum and rice). It wasn't bad, a little on the light side, but the reason I brought it up the bottle almost exploded on opening. There was so much foam I ended up with at least a 1/3 of a cup on the floor. I wasn't a very happy Squisher.

btw-Shiner, a macro brewer from Texas makes some great stuff

You can get 30 packs of that on sale for like 15ish bucks. Made a "high quality" beer pong beer, lol

I didn't say it was great beer but I'd choose it over lone star. Hell, I'd drink Corona over lone star.

I like Karl Straus beer and Stone. They are both local brewed and good beer.

It could have come from any number of manufacturers. Some was brewed by smaller second-rate breweries, while some came off the same lines as Budweiser, Miller, and others. Lucky Lager was one of the common manufacturers in the Northwest back in the day.
