Please explain why anyone would buy GS3 from Sprint

hmm 28% complete in my area. My plan ends in November this year. I haven't really had any complaints with Sprint up until a couple months ago when their service got pretty bad in my area. Despite the data being slow, I still haven't ever had a dropped call or people complaining that they have called me and not gotten through.

Launch date says September so that should give me a couple months to see how people in my area like the new LTE and see if the 3g gets a little better since there won't be as much work being done to the towers.

Of course, if the data doesn't go up, I will just get a tablet plan on Verizon and get a dumbphone from Virgin or something. I am not paying Verizon/ATT rates.

T-Mobile - 5 mbps down, 1.3 up
Verizon - 600 kbps down, 500 up
Sprint - 180 kbps down, 120 up

Terrible.

That said, Sprint has had great call coverage - Sprint is also free mobile to mobile on any carrier - and their plans are comparatively cheap (10% off with AAA discount too!) - but at this point, data is so slow that being unlimited is just... ugh

T-Mobile's unlimited call, text, and 5GB of data with no contract for $70/month is appealing as an alternative...

testing with speedtest has always been poor IMO. Try with xtremelabs speedtest. Allows the TCP window to actually get somewhere.

All depends on the area. I'm by no means a fan of sprints speed. But I find it quite about even with Verizon here. If take T-Mobile over both for sure.

Everything this guy says is what I've experienced in Houston. Sprint's data was useless. I switched to the $30 TMobile plan and never looked back. Who talks into their phone anymore anyway? 100 minutes plus Sipdroid is plenty.

There won't be enough movement off 3G. The biggest 3G data users on Sprint are likely iPhone customers since the majority of Android phones Sprint has sold for the last three years have been WiMax, and since Sprint has only had the iPhone a year, many won't be moving to a LTE iPhone in the fall because they'd probably have to pay full price for the phone.

I haven't installed the netflix app yet (because I almost never sit around wanting to watch video on my phone) -- what else do you do that requires high bandwidth? I don't ever seem to be waiting more than a second or two for Facebook or web page to load.

Yeah it just varies. If I had two SERO lines and consistently got decent (if not outstanding) speeds, I'd have stayed with them too. In my area, though, 4G is unreliable and drains battery if you leave it on (or takes forever to enable if you only turn it on when necessary) and 3G is too slow for even something as basic as Google Maps to work. I'll type in a search and it just sits there doing nothing for 30 seconds to a minute. If I want to look something up on the go it's basically useless. And since I didn't have SERO, I was paying $150 for two lines.

Sprints 3G is as good as Verizon's in my area. I have two relatives on Sprint iPhones and they work great.

I'm actually looking at switching back to Sprint this fall. LTE is supposed to be up and running in Charlotte sometime this fall and I only switched from Sprint in the first place for an iPhone. At the time, AT&T was EDGE only in my area. So it wouldn't be the first time I switched in advance of network upgrades.

Sprint absolutely sucks in York (where I work) and is decent at home. I have the revised SERO plan and will continue to use Sprint for the unlimited cheap goodness I can get from them.
Having 4g, LTE or WiMax in the area would be icing on the cake for me.

It's NOT like other carriers, they give you miniscule minutes and Sprint has free talking to any mobile phone. I guess people don't like talking on the phone any more but I do.

Verizon's plans include free mobile to mobile to any other carrier, so the "minutes" for which you pay are to hardline/landline numbers only...

I used to live in York, by the new high school, and Sprint service was great for me there. But they were also the first one with EVDO and I think everyone forgets how smart-device friendly they were back in the day.

We're getting LTE, at least at launch, in most of Rock Hill. Don't think its making it to York. Clear could never get a license for WiMax spectrum in the area. Verizon has LTE pretty much everywhere you want to go now. When I was working as a reporter/photographer for 2, I drove all around and was really surprised at the great job Comporium did in covering the area with 3G HSPA+ I had to get really out of the way to lose it. Consequently, with the amount of money they spent, I was told not to expect LTE until at LEAST 2015 in our area. So AT&T's LTE coverage will end at the NC/SC border.

But that's fine with me. I pull an average of 4/2 on my iPhone 4. Waiting to see what Sprint does with early iPhone upgraders and how that LTE network in RH pans out before deciding to switch.

Just to name a few. Company exchange email on my phone. Often very slow to load or sync. Voicemail never syncs to my phone. I have to turn it off and back on then wait about 10 minutes.

Loading attachments from email takes ages.

Calls randomly drop.

The hotspot function is useless. I often work remotely and the connection is crap so im unable to log into customers machines through the connection.

If I need to look something up its a 5 minute min job.

This is in an iphone 4s on sprints 3g. Running a speedtest rarely gets me over 100k...usually around 50-60. This is in dallas.

Supposedly we have limited lte here now so I may try to get an s3. Should give me much better speeds and make my phone useful. And I don't have a problem charging my phone every night.

You might want to try Opera Mini. I've since switched to mobile (VZW LTE ) but back when I had the OG Droid, I used Mini and it was more or less bearable.

Of course, I realize there is a difference between VZW's 3G and Sprints, though both being CDMA they are both "slow".

There was one time I was in a Babies R' Us looking at cribs, and I wanted to check Amazon for user reviews of a couple models before deciding which to buy. On my old Sprint phone I got no WiMax signal inside the large building and 3G was so slow it took 1-2 minutes to load each page. So I'd bring up my web browser, type in amazon.com, wait a minute for the front page to load, type in the crib's model number and hit search, wait another minute for the search results to load, then wait another minute each time I wanted to open up a product page.

My pregnant wife ended up getting pretty cranky because of it. We had already been there a while and her emotions were all out of whack because of the pregnancy.

Since we switched to Verizon a week ago, we went back to the same store and I was looking at reviews of some other products. Got full bars on my LTE connection in the same spot in the back of the store. Browsing the web was faster than it is at home or at work. Because of this, I was able to get the information I wanted quickly and I didn't simply give up like I would have otherwise. And it made it look like I was actually doing something useful, as opposed to just sitting on my phone holding things up.

The fact that I'm paying $20 less per month for Verizon than I was for Sprint helps too. Granted, that's without a texting plan (Google Voice) and with fewer minutes and capped data, but 2 GB is enough when I have wifi at home and at work. I rarely stream music, I don't tether, and I don't use Netflix.

Basically, WiMax is a consolation prize for Sprint users who can't deal with the slow 3G. If you have a device capable of getting WiMax signals, and you live in a WiMax area, and you are either outside or near a window or in a small building, and you are standing still, it's fine. I used to think WiMax was good enough when I had it, but it's not so much the speed but the reliability.
