PLEASE help a friend!

my friend is building a new comp...he's got this problem when trying to install the HDD...


******* (8:56:11 PM): im on a brand new computer, nothing on it yet, i put in the WD data lifeguard cd to install the hard drive, but it told me that i could only run the cd if i already had windows installed, and if i booted from a disk it would work for DOS. so i chose the option to make a disk, made it, and booted from it. when it finally got through loading all of its stuff it said it couldnt run DOS

If you want to install windows XP on it, yes.

You do not need to use those tools...as long as this is a retail xp pro disc, you go into bios, set it to boot from cd....then when it says "press any key to boot", press a key....the windows install takes off from there...you can partition and format from there.

I don't see the OS you are using but I never used the lifeguard software. I ususlly use a boot disk to do the FDISK and set the partitions. The 120g drive shouldn't give you any trouble there. If your boot disk is lost you can go to www.bootdisk.com and get what you need. I don't see where the data lifeguard is necessary for that size drive and the NF board.

its more like 5 boot disks, but you can set the bios to the boot from cd as long as your cd is bootable it will work fine. By the way nice choice on components i just built my brother a similar system, Its very snappy I like that abit board.
