Here's the deal. I had bought a motherboard and processor. they did not work, so i bought a brand new:

- Asus A7A266 Motherboard
and - AMD Athlon T-bird 1.2Ghz

I had:
- ATX Case with 300Watt power supply
- Coolermaster Coolong fan for socket A chips
- 128 MB SDRam
- 40 GB Western Digital hard drive
- an old floppy drive
- Voodoo 3 PCI video
- keyboard, mouse

SOOO.... I mount the motherboard, i put in the CPU, i put a spot of goo onto the processor, i hook up the fan, i plug it in, i plug in all of the little chassis wires into the motherboard, i put in the memory, i plug in the IDE ribbon and the floppy ribbon, I plug in the voodoo 3 PCI card, i hook up the ribbons to their respective drives, i plug in the power cables from the power supply to the drives, i plug in the power cable from the power supply to the motherboard. i set all of the jumpers and switches to Auto and Default. I plug in the power supply. i plug in the keyboard and mouse. i filck the switch on the back of the power supply. the LED on the motherboard lights up. I press the power switch on the chassis, and the power supply fan powers on. i don't know what's going on now. the CPU fan won't power up, and the screen stays blank. nothing popped. there's no smoke. there's nothing out of the ordinary, except that nothing happens!! please, and suggestion is appreciated....

is the CPU fan plugged into the mobo or a PSU plug?

try unplugging all the HD & floppy cables from the mobo and try to power on.
If the cables are plugged in backwards its not going to post.

This might sound silly, but this has happened to me before and I nearly kileld myself after hours of hair-pulling until by chance I finally discovered the solution. And boy is it stupid.

Make sure the power or the reset button isn't "stuck in". Sometimes a wrongly put-on external cover can cause the buttons to be perpetually depressed. Check it. Better idea: plug out all the LED cables and the reset cable from the m/b; leave in only the power button cable.

Then try.

Good luck.

OK. I tried booting without the HDD and the floppy ribbons attached. the CPU fan is plugged into the motherboard. what is a PSU plug? is that the type that comes attached to the power supply? i unplugged all LED wires and the reset wire from the motherboard, and doubled checked if i had the power wire attched correctly. it is. the power button on the actual case works fine.
