I just recently sold off my 2 r9 280x's in hopes of upgrading.I wanted a Fiji Nano but have to wait a couple of months for it to be released. So this leaves me with zero graphics cards to use till then. So I was thinking of picking up something cheap to hold me over till Fiji Nano releases. I was kinda looking at Evga GTX 750 ti SC or XFX r7 260x. Both are around a hundred bucks or so and I think I am willing to throw that amount away for something to hold me over for a couple months.Plus this will give me a backup card in case something ever goes wrong with my Nano.So whats the better choice and what would your choice be??By the way this will be used on a brand new x79 platform build with a 4820K.Hope this is an OK platform still and there wont be any bottle necking going on?

Grab a used radeon 7850. That's the best bang for the buck. It should be less than $100. Plus, it performs alittle better than the r7 260x.

This card has good bang for the buck:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131559

Power Color R7 250X for $59.99 After rebate with $1.99 shipping.

P.S. When filling out the rebate form be very careful to follow directions exactly (Power Color has been known to disqualify rebate applications, but they at least mention some mistakes that can happen in the Rebate instructions)

Errr... So many options!! I really like the price of that 250x but I hate rebates with a passion!! Isn't r7 250x whats inside a AMD A10-7850K APU?

No, the 7850K has 8 CUs and 8 rops, while the 250x has 10 CUs, 16 rops and a much better memory interface.

Basically, on very low resolutions there is little difference, but as you crank it up to reasonable ones twice the rops and the extra bandwidth really shows.

I think that for your purposes a used card would probably be the best bet. Look up ebay for 7850s/7950s etc near your area, assuming that you have a decent PSU and only want to game on the card until Fury nano is out they are probably much better value for money.

R7 250X has 640 stream processors @ 1000 Mhz with 1GB 128 bit GDDR5.

A10-7850K has 512 stream processors @ 720 Mhz (uses System RAM for bandwidth).

I dont think I would go so low as the 250x now, even though that is a very good price. I have a HD7770, which is the same card, and while I will probably live with it for a while, I would hesitate to buy such a low end card now. I cant even play Witcher 3 at 1080p on the lowest settings and get 30 fps. Even for a temporary card, and a backup later, I would go to something like the 750Ti or 7790 equivalent (260x??).

I'm in the same boat and decided to use my integrated until Fury gets released. No need to spend the extra when there is a viable option.

Guys I'm having no luck at all.. I have been bidding like crazy on ebay for 7850's like 30+ different cards up to $100 and I keep getting out bid every time. I even tried to get in on some 750 ti and 260x action but those go way beyond $100.00. I dont get it? these are used cards so one would think i'd have no problems getting one.this has been going on since monday so does anyone have an idea for me.. I'm almost to the point that I am going to buy a really old card like a 8800gt or something just to get my pc up and running.Ths is really pissing me off now.

Thanks guys for all the help . I ended up getting a XFX r7 260x DD for $80 Shipped no rebates. This was so perfect for my budget I couldnt pass it up.So this should hold me over till I can get a R9 Fiji Nano when they release them in the fall. Then I will have this little beast as a back up if anything fails with the Nano. After I get the Nano I am hoping I wont have to upgrade for a long while,at leased a good 3 years or am I asking to much? Not looking to play in 4K with the Nano but maybe 2K at max with mid to higher settings.

Err... if you are playing 2k at mid to higher settings, the Nano is quite a bit of overkill...

Yeah right now it is going to be over kill but not in a year or two. besides when I get a 4K T.V. then I will try to play games in 4K on mid to higher settings with my Nano.If I can play games now in 2K on maxed out settings then so be it, but if it can only do 2K on mid settings then I can be happy with that. Im not going to cry over $400 for a kick ass GPU that can do 4K. besides I remember paying that much for a 8800GTX back in the day and that card wont even play most of todays games at 1080p on low settings.

Oh you threw money away alright.
For 30$ more the used 670 I linked is 2.2x faster.
The 7870 JDG1980 has is 38% faster for 15$ more.

WHy did you buy a NEW 260x? Please don't say for the warranty.

Because I am not made of money and I said I didnt want to spend more then a hundred bucks and I said I wanted something cheap to hold me over till Nano arrived in a couple of months. I dont want full Fiji either as Nano is for my Mini HTPC Gaming RIG and full Fiji wont fit in the case I have.Oh and for the warranty LOL J/K

You literally can't know that. We don't know what size regular air cooled Fury will be. We don't know if AIB partners will make a nano-ish sized small version. I'm pretty sure they will.

You said you've sold your R9 280Xs. How much did you get for them? I'm searching to get rid of one also.

Depends on what brand of card you have and what specs the card is..I sold mine for $200 each + shipping for XFX r9 280x Black Editions with 3 free games coupon from Steam. Out of that $420 I spent $80 for a cheapie XFX r7 260x DD so that left me with $340 for Fiji Nano. I am guessing I will have to add about $100.00 more out of my own pocket to cover the cost of Nano? So not to shabby if you ask me.I figured a couple months playing at 1080p at mid to lower settings is doable if in the end I will end up with my Nano.
