Please help choosing graphic card!

Hey I need some help getting a new graphic card. I just can't figure out what i should be best for the price.

Gainward CardExpert Geforce2 MX
Hercules Prophet 4000 kyro
Radeon VE

If any1 using the one of the graphic card above, please give me your opinion. If not, give me some info that would help me. Thank You.

Get the GF2 MX card. The Hercules you're looking at is just the Kyro I, not the Kyro II and the Radeon VE just plain sucks in performance.

with higher resolutions (1024x768x32 and up) kyro 1 can actually be better than mx.
kyro 1 is like a kyro 2 with less 50% of performance... 115 mhz to 175 mhz

is the performance of kyro1 good comparing to geforce2 mx? I'm planning to play unreal tournament and maybe quake3 with it? Is the lack of T&L a drawback for kyro1?

it depends on your cpu above 800 mhz even T&L games don't have any problem with kyro
besides unreal tournament does not support any T&L I think...
and quake 3 T&L support is negligible
so..

unreal tournament is a very very cpu intensive game... even kyro 1 will not be the bottleneck (at least in 1024x768x32, but this will depend on your cpu, if you have an high end cpu the bottleneck could be the kyro 1), with kyro 2 you would not get much better results in 1024x768x32 if and only if you have a medium cpu (800 mhz)
only if you enable trilinear or fsaa or something...or increase the resolution...you would get better performance with kyro 2.
voodoo5 and kyro are the best for unreal tournament...

quake 3 you would get better perforamnce with kyro 2...
but I can't see any difference from 60 fps to 100 fps..

definitely don't get the radeon VE. if you can get your hands on the gainward mx400 that has 3.5 ns ram, then get that. it is what tom pabst called "THE GOLDEN SAMPLE" . they overclock really well, and come within 85% of a gts at high rez when overclocked. if you can't get one of those, then i would get the kyro I. the review of the gainward card is here if you go this route MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE WITH 3.5 NS RAM, AS MANY OF THEM HAVE SLOWER RAM.

If you are using win98/me, I think you should go with the Radeon DDR LE which is about $77 shipped from www.newegg.com. This card will EASILY beat out an MX, and costs about the same. If you have a fast cpu.... 900mhz or higher, then you might want to think about the KyroII, (because the card lacks a hardware T&L, and will do much better with a faster cpu).

Instead of Radeon VE, how about the Radeon LE. It comes with the DDR RAMs. Only a simple registry hack and a little overclocking a $77 card will give you the normal Radeon DDR performance. Or just download the Radeon tweaker from rage3d.com and it will do the job for you.

VE, and XT is not a good idea. Maybe the MX but I would suggest the LE over all of the above.

I would consider an LE, but i'm planning to buy a graphic card at the a retail store instead of the internet. I was wondering do they sell the gainward geforce2 mx running at 3.5 ns SDRAM at any retail store? How do you know if the ram is 3.5 ns? Is the Kyro1 really slower than they kyro2?

The best card from that list is the GF2 MX, but in reality all of those cards suck. The cards you listed are already obsolete. As soon as you buy one you'll immediately realise that you've made a mistake.

A Radeon LE often costs less than an MX and offers much better performance. Or you can spend a bit more and get a GF2 GTS or a Kyro2.

which would be better to test graphic card performance, 3DMark2000 or 3DMark2001? What is the minimum performance for 3DMark2001? Which one would i get a more accurate score?

Trueboyz first and foremost, ignore 3dmark. Its a synthetic benchmark that has never accurately reflected real world performance.
