Ok... heres the deal...

Until yesterday, i had a dual boot configeration (Win98, Linux)
Patitionstions:
C: - Win98 (5gb)
D: - storage (2gb)
E: - Storage (10gb)
Linux ext2 (2.5 gb)
Linux Swap (125MB)

Yesterday, I got my hands on a RED HAT 6.2...

And UNFORTUNETLY... i let my friend, install it...

Now, I got Redhat 6.2 running nicely, BUT, I CANNOT ACCESS ANY OF MY DOS PARTITIONS...

When i boot, the lilo, WILL NOT recognise the "dos" command (which is suppose to boot to /dev/hda1/)
The error it gives me: "No such Image"

Now... In Redhats boot lilo configeration (in LinuxConf)... it gives me an option to set the default lilo boot to /dev/hda1...etc (which are my DOS partitions)

I have tried many different lilo settings but CANNOT boot into my dos Patitions!

I have Redhat 6.2 running nicely, but i cant see my dos partitions in /mnt/ (like i did, with mandrake)

Then i booted from my Win98 boot disk to see if fdisk recognised dos paritions...

fdisk tells me my 20gb HDD is partitions into 2 paritions, a 4GB NON-DOS, and a 15GB NON-DOS!

THen i tried to see what the DISK DRAKE in the mandrake installation cd told me about my paritions... disk drake told me that i sill had /dev/hda1 ....etc (same partitions as list on top)

(*this is what confused me!*)

Now... i really want to get Win98 back 'n runnin because i have some important data on those partitions...

PLEASE HELP! Now I'm very confused and dont know how i can get access to my dos partitions!

Thanks in advance! ;(

I know nothing about Linux, but it appears that the partition ID was changed from DOS to whatever. I'd look for a boot sector editor that can change it back, and hope that the FAT is still intact. Perhaps Norton or Partition Magic can do it for you,

1. Boot from Win98 START disk (floppy)
2. At A:\ type FDISK /MBR
3. Remove boot floppy and reboot

That should get you back into Windoze. Hope this helps.

are you sure?

if i format the mbr, it will get me back into windoze?

and after doing so... will i still be able to boot into linux via the RH 6.2 Floppy disk?

FDISK /MBR will restore the Windows-required Master Boot Record. The next time you boot the machine it should boot into Windows. I imagine using the RH floppy will get you into Linux.
