Ok, here's the scenario. Just recently a job position in my company opened up that's roughly about 5 minutes away from my home. Currently the position I'm in takes about an hour to get there, so natually I'm dying to get into this new position.
The good news is that I used to work with the guy who's leaving the position that I'm after so he said that he would put a good word in for me to the hiring supervisor. Also another co-worker from that team also said they would put in a word for me. In addition to that I used to work with the hiring supervisor as well as the manager of the group and I helped them out in the past on numerous projects a couple of years ago. In fact when I first heard about the position I sent my resume directly to the manager and he said he would give it to his hiring supervisor.
The bad news is that when I heard about this position it was on the last day that they were resumes so I barely got mine in on time. Also right after I submitted my resume the company went through a strike with its union workers so basically a lot of day to day operations got put on hold. So its been a few weeks since I put in my bid on this job and I have'nt heard anything yet.
So my question is would it be a good idea for me to directly contact the hiring supervisor to ask how things were going with this job or would that be going to far? Should I just wait and see what happens or push a little more to try and get this position?
I really want this job, not only would it save me 2 hours of commute time I would also save around 300-500 bucks a month in gas and save a few bucks on insurance.
Thanks for any advice
