Please help: Lockups w/ GeForce4 at AGP 4x on 8K7A+

System specs:
Win2K
Chaintech GeForce4 Ti 4600
Detonators 40.71
Epox 8K7A+
1.4ghz T-bird
512 PC2400 RAM
TB Santa Cruz

some other settings:
Anti-Aliasing is OFF
Vsync is Always OFF
(my single fill rate is 1090.6 and multi fill rate is 2336.9, which is proof)
Anisotropic Filtering is Disabled
Aperature Size is 128
Voltage for 4x at 1.53

When I had my GeForce2 GTS, I had AGP 4x set no problems. Once I got my gef4, I was experiencing really bad fps and bechmarks (~7700 on 3dmarks2k1SE).

I lowered my AGP to 2x and installed the AMD AGP miniport driver (for the first time ) and my benchmarks jumped to ~9600 (http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4632485).

Still, I should be getting higher marks and I want to use AGP 4x and Fast Write.

When I have AGP 4x set, I get lockups in any 3D application (2D is OK). I have tried the 30.82 dets (using 40.71 now)... but nope.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss.

Have you tried changing your aperture size? I have a somewhat similar system (Iwill KK266, 1.4T-Bird, 512 PC133, G4 4200). For some reason, my computer did not like the 128 aperture size. When I set it to 512, it worked fine.

I would also suggest reinstalling the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers as well.

I did try changing my Aperature Size to 64 and 256 (I can't do 512, BIOS doesn't allow it).

I will try latest VIA 4 in 1's... I thought the AMD miniport would be better. but we'll see

Any other ideas folks?

Don`t install the VIA AGP driver,you`ve the AMD northbridge on your board so the AMD mini port driver is the right one,you can however install the other parts of the VIA 4 in 1 drivers.Maybe few bios tweaks like disable all video shadowing,disable video ram cacheable,disable system bios cacheable,disable fastwrites.

Btw what PSU do you`ve? Since the GF4 Ti4600 are quite power hungry.

I will mess around with some of those settings, thanks. Fast Write disabled is up first

Just installed the VIA 4 in 1's... Still crashed. Gonna uninstall them and reinstall the ADM miniport.

I have a 430W ATX PSU.. don't think thats the problem

OK.

I just got done w/ some testing.

I uninsatlled the VIA AGP and reinstalled the AMD AGP

Then I pretty much tried every cominbation possible with Video RAM Cachable, Bios Cacheable, Aperature Size, Fast Write, Super Bypass Mode, Always Compensate... but to no avail. I'm back at 2x.

One thing that I have not been able to change because it is not in my bios (and I have latest bios) is side band addressing. I can't change it with RivaTuner either. Any ideas on how to turn it off?

Also, any more ideas? I've exhausted every option I know of.
