I have a second PC that Im building, but either the motherboard or processor were bad. I used to have the motherboard and processor in my main PC, but I ordered a new motherboard and processor and put in the ones that were in there in my second PC.

Anyways, to find out what was wrong with the ones in the second PC, I took my main, working processor out and stuck it in the old motherboard in my second PC. I was able to get everything working properly, even installing Windows 2000, on my second PC.

So, I then took the working processor out and put it in the main PC. The only thing I removed from my main motherboard is the processor, the heatsink, and my Radeon 9700. After hooking those items back up, I am now unable to get my monitor out of standby mode. I then took the processor back out and put it back in the second PC just to see if it still works, and it worked fine. I then put it back in my main PC and I still cant the the monitor out of standby. I have also tried clearing the CMOS and reseating my video card to no avail...

My specs are below. Anyone know what may be the problem? Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure what you are trying to explain about the 9700 card.
The only thing I removed from my main motherboard is the processor, the heatsink, and my Radeon 9700
but it sounds like the refresh rate is set too high and the monitor is shutting down to protect itself. (at least that is what mine does if I mess up on the monitor driver installation)

Do you get the single beep while booting to indicating the MoBo is making it through the power on self test (POST)
I am assuming that you somehow know your PC is booting properly and only the monitor is working incorrectly???

Thanks for the reply Insidious. I was just saying that the only things I did in my main PC were to remove the 9700 (to make it easier to remove the heatsink), remove the heatsink, and the processor, then hook those items back up. My main PC was working fine before removing and reinstalling those items. The monitor has worked fine for years, and it should still work....Also, I dont believe my PC speaker beeped at all...perhaps its not hooked up correctly. Ill have to check that when I get home from work this evening.

Yeah, the PC speaker will be a good place to start because it will give you some clues as to how the system is failing on it's power-up.

A single beep means the PC has POSTed correctly

Different beeps will indicate that either your CPU, RAM, or Video are not getting initialized properly.

(see if you can find help in the ASUS FAQ to tell you the beep codes for that board)

Thanks again Insidious, I will check that out. I really think that the speaker is hooked up though...would there be any reason for it to not beep if theres a problem?

Anyone else know of what may be causing the problem?

so its the KT7 / 2000+ that wont post, or the A7V / 1.4?

if its the KT7 / 2000+, which I'm assuming it is since your a7v133 really isnt suitable for a 2000+, and the KT7 works fine with the 1.4, then RMA the 2000+. People could probably be of more help if you carefully restated your problem in a more specific manner regarding which items work in what.

To properly troubleshoot, you have to establish which parts work and which do not, so you start with a fully functioning system and swap out one part at a time if possible.

If its the A7V133 that's causing the problems and it always worked fine in the past, try resetting your cmos, reseating ALL cards, reseating the motherboard itself, and checking all the power connections. Putting a 2000+ in an A7V133 could possible damage it, since that board only accepts up to 1.3ghz cpu and does not have specific athlon XP support.

Its the KT7 with the 2000+ that will not post. Sorry, I tried to explain clearly what is going on, but will try to do so again.

Okay, my main PC consists of the following:

Windows XP Professional
Thermaltake Xaser II 6000A Case
MSI KT7 Turbo2 Motherboard
AMD XP 2000+ Processor
768MB PC133 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Western Digital SE 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Hard Drive
Maxtor 45GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
Maxtor 35GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
Enermax 431W Power Supply
Lite-On 32x x 24x x 8x CD-RW
Mitsumi 40x CD-ROM

This system has been working fine for awhile now with no problems.

I took out the XP 2000+ and put it in the second PC, which contains the following:

Windows 2000
Asus A7v133
512MB SDRAM
GeForce 2 GTS 32MB
Pioneer A05 DVD-R/W

I was able to get the 2000+ working in the second system, and was able to install Windows 2000 with no problem.

Now, I took the 2000+ out of the second PC, and put it back in the main PC. Now, the main PC does not POST. So, I put the 2000+ back in the secondary PC and it booted fine, but still wouldnt work when I put it back in the main PC. The only things I did when removing the 2000+ from the main PC was to remove my 9700 PRO, remove the heatsink, then the processor, then put it all back in...
