I am looking for a good Power Supply for my soon to be Athlon XP 1700. I was preferring something quiet, and of decent quality. I found the enermax EG365P-VE FC at newegg and it looks to fit the bill (350 watt). It claims to have "Fan on/off controlled by M/B ~ Real "Sleeping Mode" support." How does that work? What triggers the power supply fan to go off? Anybody have any experience with this power supply, or does anybody have any suggestions for my situation?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Dr Orville

DrOrville, the fan off feature of the PS is dependant on the MB you choose, if the MB has support for the feature/ it will have a 3-PIN connector to control the feature, if not, the fan will run continously. Hope this helps

"Fan on/off controlled by M/B " means that the Power supports this as long as the motherboard does (the M/B meaning MotherBoard). Most current motherboards have at least 2 3-pin connectors for fans (1 for the cpu heatsink fan).

I'd recommend one of our TruePower power supplies, but then I'm biased.

I have one of these and wouldn't recommend it if you want a quiet PSU. My mobo didn't support it, so it just ran at full speed and was pretty noisy. I modded it by replacing the 80mm with an L1A Panaflo and ditching the 92mm fan altogether. Now it's quiet and it runs cool. People on the forum do seem to like the True Power, and the specs suggest they really don't get noisy until you get to pretty high temps. I wouldn't buy another Enermax. (This was my second.)

my enermax was very loud to and i did the same thing hmsrolst did. i got rid of the 92mm fan and replaced the 80mm fan with a 80mm manually adjustable enermax on the lowest setting (25cfm/21dba). but if you don't want to go through all that trouble, i recommend the antec trupower series.
