Hardware in signature. Will be running 7 64 Ultimate. I know the mobo has a BIOS update that should be flashed, but not sure when that should be done. I assume its not wise to tweak and o/c until win is installed and updated. Appreciate the help on the order of install.

Are you sure you need to flash the BIOS? There's always a risk of bricking the mobo, and the update may not even be crucial.

Just install Windows first, and make sure everything works the way they should.

If you absolutely want to flash BIOS, then I'd say do it first before anything else.

ok, I'll do a little research on the BIOS to see what it's fixing before I flash. Should install go Win 7 first, chipset drivers second, win 7 updates next, and then latest video drivers?

Oh man, you should have posted here before buying that stuff. By my rough calculations, you could have knocked $400 off the price while maintaining the same performance.

As for the BIOS flash, I doubt you will need to do it at all unless something isn't working right. Then just install your GPU drivers, any missing USB, Wifi, etc. drivers and you should be good to go. Make sure to do Windows updates as well.

I know I know on the hardware. My company paid for it, so I'm not losing a lot of sleep over it. BC (before kids) I would have researched here for days on the hardware, but I barely had time to read some reviews on newegg. Also, I used to build a new sysyem every 2 years. What I have now is almost 5 years old, so I figured I'd over build a bit

Not sure I follow you with "I doubt you will need to do it at all unless something isn't working right".

I edited my post to clarify, but I meant that there is no need to flash the BIOS unless there is something wrong.

EDIT: I guess that fffblackmage has been around me long enough to translate my incomprehensible musings. :awe:

You can do it before or afterwards. As long as you can P.O.S.T. your CPU, there is no right or wrong here.

Depending on the motherboard, you can flash it with out an OS using FREE DOS or MS-DOS 7 (free). In the case of My ASUS with EUFI and some BIOS' you can do it from with in the BIOS screen with out having to use DOS. Alternativly, you can install Windows and some motherboards like those from Intel allow you to update the BIOS while Windows is running.

  1. Windows 7 or Bios (If you can boot, should'nt matter which comes 1st)
  2. Chipset [reboot]
  3. Network Drivers (so you can download the latest for steps 4 through 6)
  4. Video Drivers [reboot]
  5. Peripheral Drivers (USB3 chips, onboard stuff, mouse drivers, printers, etc) [may or may not require reboot]
  6. Windows Update [may or may not reboot]
  7. Google Chrome or Commodo Dragon
  8. And All your Favorite Software
