please help

my friend just went back from sem break... n 4 sum reason his desktop won't boot....
i've tested his system(s) RAM,PSU,VGA on my system n it works okay....i haven't tested his mobo n proc cuz...i don't have an intel proc laying around... and the motherboard type is kinda dodgy...on the board it says FOXCONN P4m800/ 478 rev 3.0 i looked it up on foxconn's support site n can't find the exact type....does anybody know the mobo's type designated name, processor it support,etc.

i've also tried bare booting to no avail so that should eliminate storage from my checklist...cleared BIOS same thing..just fans n power LED no beeps, nuthin...

please help is it dead Cpu or mobo ?? he haven't used it for like 4 months or so...just got back n got treated with the sound of fan hums n BSOD....

any help would be appreciated

Stock answer: Disconnect power. Reseat CPU and power cables, remove everything else. Check jumpers. Connect only power button. Remove 3V battery and short-circuit the contacts. Press power button. Replace battery. Add one stick of working memory into 1st slot (closest to the CPU). Install graphics/use integrated (if any). Try to boot.

The p4m800 is a VIA chipset, and the 478 indicates a socket478 which takes a Pentium4 or Celeron, Prescott series.

So if you can find one to swap, great because we can't tell you if it's mobo or cpu thats bad. Just that when it comes down to the two, its almost always the mobo.

i got so pissed off determining which one's defective...so i decided to smash it to bits by runnin' em over w/ my car...good riddance whoa!! what an unexpected relief
