So this is my built, bought it before Christmas.

GIGABYTE GA-X58
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128456
Dual GIGABYTE GTX 460
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125352
Intel Core i7-950
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115211
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3

SILVERSTONE ST75F-P 750W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256059

So earlier today my pc was running fine, but today after work I went on an my pc was loading really slowly.

The starting screen came on, then the keyboard lights (light up keboard) went off.
And as the windows 7 logo was loading the keybaord turned on and off twice.
The welcome screen was on for a while and then the computer slowly loaded my desktop.

The weird thing is wheni went to play crysis 2 demo the loading took forver but the game ran just as smooth as always.

Idk if these other issues, posted below, have anything to do with this but here are other isues ive had.

Computer completely shutting down and restarting.

I have 8gbs of ram but sometimes my pc will only read 4gbs and i will have to reseat them.

Please Help.

Also I have tried replugging everything inside the chasis, defragging and restoring.

What is your hard drive? Do you have a Solid State drive? It might be a motherboard malfunction and you might need to call the GIGABYTE tech support.

Because of the RAM problems as well.

Yeah its make sense, but the ram problems have been occuring since i built the pc.
This slowness just started occuring.

This could still be a mb issue and not the harddrive?

Could be a motherboard problem from the start and now having SATA problems as well? Maybe worth a shot.

I was told, because of the ram misreading this could be a cpu issue.
what do you guys think?

More likely MB->RAM problems rather than RAM->CPU. Problems can worsen or even cascade (miswrite to the HDD, for example). Troubleshooting can be a chore. If you're comfortable that it's not a software issue (viruses), start trying to isolate hardware issues. You have diagnostics to test the memory (memtest), CPU (Prime95), and your GPU manufacturer should have options for testing that. Before starting check to make sure all of your connections are solid (RAM, PSU connectors, etc).

Start by looking for errors in EventViewer, and monitor temperatures (SpeedFan if you don't have a program to do that). It may indicate a construction issue. Next Memtest your RAM, update your drivers, check your HDD for errors, and then Prime95 to check the CPU. If that doesn't isolate any issues try a reinstall.

These are all sorta generic troubleshooting tips. You may find specific instances that take you in a different direction. Sometimes, with newer hardware, you may find that you update some driver or BIOS and the problems all go away.

Try moving the HDD to a different SATA port. It could be that you're getting a lot of read/write errors on a bad port. Also run chkdsk with a full media scan; that'll show you if you have bad sectors.

I've tried replugging everything already, im going to run those tests tomorrow.
I dont think its the gpus because i get great performance while gaming, just slow loading.
My cpu idels at 35, gpus at 30
Full load cpu at 50, gpu1 70 gpu2 50

Also I forgot to mention, my motherboard light is never on.
It only comes on it I replug something on the board, then it turns off eventually.

I would start with the HDD, as the others have mentioned. From your description it seems a consequence rather than the cause, but as long as your having the HDD issues it'll make troubleshooting the rest difficult. Also check with EventViewer, it can direct you to specific parts if you are throwing errors.

I know how it feels to put a system together and have some hidden issue. Things cascade, one issue leads to another, it makes troubleshooting difficult. I remember on my current system I went through several rounds with a random reboot issue. I even gave up for a while, hoping that some new driver would correct the problem. It turned out to be a marginal sound card, which you'd think would be easy to diagnose but I experienced the same issues when I'd pulled it because either it was the drivers (which I didn't uninstall) or errors written to the HDD. The way I found it was that it got worse to the point that I could not reinstall windows, so removing all extra parts allowed me to reinstall and I added them back one at a time.

Mine's probably a bad example, I had Catalyst driver issues and a bad sound card. It was only after the drivers were updated from the manufacturers (both Asus and ATI) that I was able to isolate it to the sound card. Just anecdotal. Hopefully you'll isolate early and it's only 1 problem.

I ran memtest and prime95 (for memory) for a 1hr & 25mins, with no errors.

After doing some research I found out that im not the only one experiencing this ram "misreading" with this board.

Apparently a lot of people received their boards with damaged slots and bent pins.

I still want to be sure its the mother board though.

If i hook up my old pcs hd to my new pc and launch of it, could this cause damage since theirs different drivers on that hd? or will it be ok since im just trying to see if the slow loading is taking place?
I also want to be sure that the HD wasnt damaged.
I've done windows recovery and nothing changed, but i also did a dick check and had no errors.

Check this one out:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2049947

"i'd check your ram settings, i had problems with my x58-ud3r with ocz memory with long boots and random hangs. I think my board was just picky with ram, i switched out with corsair and had no problems since. I have my sata on ACHI also."

You can see where different people had different resolutions. Ideally, at this point in troubleshooting, it's nice to be able to swap things out. I think you have 2 components that aren't playing nice together. A minimal install (1 GPU, 1 ram stick, no extra cards) then adding back one component at a time might give a resolution to the error but would be really slow troubleshooting (plus if the problem crops up over time it's no guarantee you'll find the issue).

I know, not a very helpful post and I apologize for that.

Ok, so today i called gigabyte which wasnt much help.
I updated bios, tried different things.

He said he doesnt think its a ram, cpu, mb, or psu problem.
He thinks said it was either software or hd related.

So I just decided to completely reformat.
Now its loading a bit quicker but its still slow.

Games load up pretty fast.

During black ops i get 80-90 fps

The game runs pretty smooth expect its a bit stuttery at times and I drop to about 45 fps when a flash is thrown.

Anyone have anymore ideas? This is driving me crazy. Im almost about to call it quits and just use the pc as it is.

Does it still sometimes read the RAM as 4GB?

When it did do this, it would read 8gbs for like 2-4 days then change back to 4gb.
So its going to take some time to tell.

But also, im noticing a high pitched, but very quiet, noise coming from the pc.

But i cant locate it because it goes away before I can get inside the case to listen.

Did you try moving the HDD to a different SATA port?

yes i have, even changing the sata cable

EDIT: So just after posting, i was reinstalling speedfan and starcraft 2
my pc crashed, rebooted, and i only have 4gbs or ram.
Had to replug the 24pin and restart to get my 8gbs.

I was also notified, on the post screen, that DES, dynamic energy saver, has shut off. Which is a gigabyte program to save enerygry.

EDIT: This crash has happened twice now, and misreading.

Ive tried running with just 1 stick of ram in, twice with both sticks

Im also noticing my fps is really not what it use to be, in cod bos i use to pretty much stay at 91fps
now it jumps from 70 to 90 with stutter

Actually, if I had to make an educated guess, I'd say memory controller on the motherboard. Given your thoroughness in troubleshooting I'm assuming you tried the other slot pair. It'd be nice to have a different RAM to try, maybe slight differences in dimensions are paying some unforeseeable role in this, but it's kinda sounding like an RMA scenario.

Yah im pretty positive at this point that its the mother board.
I ran prime95 and memtest over night with no issues.

I already requested a RMA from gigabyte, but im planning on purchasing a GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R from a local computer parts store, because noone carriers the motherboard I got.

The thing I am worried about though, do you think anything else could have been damaged?

His memory controller ain't on the motherboard.

That being said, I do agree that his symptoms sound like a general mobo problem.

Yes, I the computer store doesn't give returns unless its defective so hopefully I'm rmaing the right part.

but do you think anything could have been damaged?

It's in the nature of these sorts of build issues that it's difficult to pin down. One day you think, hey, I haven't lost memory/rebooted in a while I wonder what I did that fixed it. At this point, I'd probably see if a friend has some memory to try. Failing that, see if you can get Gigabyte to OK the board return. You can tell, I'm more enthusiast than expert others might be able to give some better advice (but I try because I've been where you are before and I feel for you).

Don't know about the RAM problem but if you have a spare SATA cable, you might try that to see if it changes your disk I/O issue.
